Maybe good for the dressing room, training...etc.

But can you honestly tell me 1 situation this season apart from the first few games were our players were not 100% fit he would slot into our team.

He wont work harder or score more than Richarlison, he wouldnt get in no.10 over Gylfi and certainly wouldnt bother Gomes or Gana in CM.

Yes he is playing well in the US but i guarantee if you put DCL there he would destroy it.

Cenk was a hero for Besiktas, Niasse was voted best player in Russian league, but look at them, cant get a game for Everton.

Nothing against Wayne, at the time he went to United, i hated the bones off him, but looking back, he never really did us wrong and I respect him for going, if he stayed at Everton i doubt he would of achieved the things he did for United. Look at him to Barkley, Ross is a wanna be Wayne, he will never do for Chelsea what Wayne did at United and the [Poor language removed] he talks about everton, getting his tattoo covered, some blue him. If he joined Chelsea in a respectful way I wouldnt have a problem.

Rant over.

He's better off in America, where he could finish his career w/ a club built around him. I think we'd be better w/ him at least this year and by better I mean a marginal point difference. Assuming Watford and Bournemouth fade somewhat and Leicester doesn't catch fire we're probably locked into 7th no matter if he's here or not.

I wasn't against getting rid of him we had to get younger even though I think we'd be a better club w/ him in for the very short term. He did score 12 for us last year playing for Team Clamity. So yea he could still start here. After all our lineup isn't exactly special, maybe we'll get there someday but for the time being we're 9th in a league where 8 clubs are a trash fire.
It's not that he's crap, well maybe a little bit, but he just doesn't suit the system at all. It's high energy, fast paced attacking football. Rooney in the twilight of his career cannot do that.

Therefore he's gone to the walking football league in America.

I could see him doing well as the frontman, with Ricky and Walcott on the wings. If he is actually given a strict role he does very well. Too well in fact, given how he became a utility superstar for Fergie.

But he can't press which is my whole point. He doesn't have the athleticism or the fitness to do it. The striker is the first point of the press, in this system there aren't any passengers and Rooney would be a passenger. That is one of the reasons why he likes Richarlison up top, he has a high work rate, a good engine, presses and is genuinely quick. Which brings me on to the fact that our best stuff this season has come from quick transitions of play, from one end to the other with minimal passes. That requires ball carriers and quick players, Rooney is neither. He wouldn't get in the team and I'd have DCL over him because he fits the system more. I can't believe people would even suggest we should've kept him. He really shouldn't have come back in the first place.

By your definition a player like Pirlo would be a passenger. And pressing does not require someone to run around like a headless chicken. Look at Messi at Barcelona - he selectively chooses when to chase for the ball. There is no point in allowing your striker to get completely knacker Ed chasing the ball around.

People act as if the high energy press is a new innovation - Milan used it under Sacchi to great success. The problem they had is it was physically unsustainable for the players. And it is not some kind of magic bullet either - mediocre players using the tactic are still average players. We just think it is more successful than other systems as the extraordinary Barca team used it under Guardiola.

..my answer to your question is yes. I think he’s a better option than Tosun but I really have no issue with the fact that he’s not here. It’s a new regime and we’re doing ok to this point.

By my definition Pirlo, a holding midfielder, and at Rooneys current age would not fit in with Marco Silvas brand of football and would indeed be a passenger. He is also much better than Rooney is at his age.

I don't get your point. Are you saying that Rooney would fit into this current team and you'd drop Bernard, put Richarlison on the wing and start Rooney up front? Because if so you're mad.

I'd also like to add that Rooney didn't score in his last 16 games for Everton but hey let's keep him. He was finished the year before he came back imo. We used his wages in a better way and I'm glad he's gone.

Actually I would. The first 11 is not the be all and end all, so having a Bernard on the bench is a good thing. And it is not like the front three would play every match. As it is we are woefully short in terms of strikers.

It's a no from me,Wayne spent his best years at old Trafford, we need something totally different now ,we seem to have an overload of wingers at the moment and need to find that consistent goal scorer next, isn't lazano another winger so he may be an upgrade on what we have ,but although he could be a step in the right direction not the priority just now.

The classic dilemma with an old Wayne Rooney is, where do you play him?

He is nowhere near as good as Gylfi so we can discount number 10.

In DM, he’s like a poor mans Gomes, so we can discount that position.

The only other position is CF.

I don’t think that Tosun is a particular hood barometer, as he can’t get into the team himself and there is no way he’s as good as Richarlison.
