Any professional footballer would have left Everton for Man Utd. It isn’t about playing for who you support at that level, but making the most of your talent, winning the most stuff and earning the most cash.

It is a shame he left before he could really put a stamp on his second stint.

Rooney was sold because he plays the same role as Gylfi and only one can play at the same time. Gylfi is better at this point in their careers so he was picked. Keeping Rooney around but not playing him doesn't work because of the constant hounding from the press and also Rooney himself doesn't take to it well. Add in that we clearly have decided to get younger players in the squad and Rooney needs to go.

Not at 17 they wouldn't.

All you say is right, that doesn't mean fans have to be OK with it either.

He left his second stint because he is finished. He should never have got a second stint anyway.

You are nuts.

Yes he has no legs left but can probably still outpace Tosun (in yes what would be the slowest race ever) and defo have more assists/goals than him. Unlike last year there is also pace on the flanks. If he started say 25 out of 38 matches he'd be fine. I think the problem is that sometimes old guys like Rooney get hot for a couple weeks, and OMG we have to start him. Then they get run into the ground and become useless. You saw it a lot w/ Barry, one week he's one of the best players on the pitch, then he's starting a midweek game and he's worse than Morgan. Older guys like Rooney can still play well in the prem, its just usually their minutes never get managed properly.

Also at CF he wouldn't have to run around as much and you really wouldn't haven't to worry about defensive duties and/or getting bypassed in the midfield like he wasn't there.

I really doubt that first part.

The second part is also incorrect as the striker is the first line of the press that Silva wants to employ, it's how Richarlison got the 3rd goal against Brighton. Rooney cannot do that role. Also could you imagine Rooney being on the end of the move that led to our 1st goal? I don't think he'd be past the halfway line personally.

We were absolutely right to send him to America, best move for both parties.

Rooney @18 > Gylfi today.
Rooney today< Gylfi today.

He's better off in America, where he could finish his career w/ a club built around him. I think we'd be better w/ him at least this year and by better I mean a marginal point difference. Assuming Watford and Bournemouth fade somewhat and Leicester doesn't catch fire we're probably locked into 7th no matter if he's here or not.

I wasn't against getting rid of him we had to get younger even though I think we'd be a better club w/ him in for the very short term. He did score 12 for us last year playing for Team Clamity. So yea he could still start here. After all our lineup isn't exactly special, maybe we'll get there someday but for the time being we're 9th in a league where 8 clubs are a trash fire.
