Set pieces..

I was on about an attacking sense.

But defending its obvious we need to sort it out, preferably by shipping starjumps back across the pond
My apologies sagey, thought we were all fuming about our defending. TBH I'm not bothered about not scoring from set pieces, but I am VERY concerned about conceding from them. Our team is set up to score goals from open play, and when we're on it we do it very well with most of our victories coming from margins of 2+ goals.

I don't think there can be an excuse for not working on defending set pieces though. If we don't think corners present enough goal-scoring opportunities often enough in the course of 90 minutes to practice them that is fine, but we have to respect the fact that our opposition will be practicing to score from corners and we must do better at defending them.

I've just skimmed through the thread and so may have missed a link to them, but is there actually any data for conceding from set pieces knocking about? Everton and the PL in general for this season? I haven't seen any.

Since there's a lot claimed over how inordinately rubbish we are at defending set pieces it might be an idea to have some evidence.

That sounds suspiciously like statistics. We're supposed to just judge based on what our eyes tell us around here.

I spent a lot of time trying to find the numbers on this but of the 20 websites I looked at none of them were detailed enough, just amount conceded and from what part of the pitch but nothing specific to corners or set pieces that I could find.

I am feeling strange for posting this but....

We had no players standing on either post for their corner. Have we just done away with this simple defensive thing?

Is it not a done thing anymore? The only other game highlights I really saw was Man U - Bournemouth and Martial is on the back post every defensive corner... please Explain.

So, in essence, we're "worse than all other teams in the PL" (or at least one of the worst 3 or 4) at conceding from set pieces, but there's no proof to be had on the matter?

Sounds reasonable. :coffee:

The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

Apparently (according to SNN) Everton and Liverpool have each conceded 7 set piece goals, which is exceeded by Leicester on 9 and three other teams on between 10 and 13.

Crisis, what crisis?
