The rate of scoring from corners is less than 3% in th entire league, sure would be nice to see a few better ones from us but theyre not as important as some think, certainly not as much to be the difference between getting top 4-5 or not

In a normal game that would certainly be the case as we average around six corners a game

Monday's game was an a statistical aberration though as we had thirteen corners and those corners from the ball going behind to it going dead after the kick probably took a good fifteen to twenty minutes off the clock.

I think it was this proliferation of corners which has made our uselessness at corners such a hot topic in the days after the Palace game.

The sheer waste of time corners have become to us was laid bare for all to see.

Its nothing new, we've been crap at them several years now even going back to the days of arteta always hitting the first man. You'd think professional players these days could get it past the near post, quite a lot of the teams in the league are the same

For a man with his passing ability Arteta loved to hoof it into the first man on a corner.

True dat, about Arteta.

But the big difference was we had Cahill then and on occasions when the ball was delivered into the kill zone he was leading the charge and we regularly scored from corners.

The difference today is we never threaten.....apart from Funes Mori ar Bournemouth hence the corner crisis becoming a major issue among fans.

Del was poor against Palace with his corners, with the amount he had in the game and the low success at finding any decent range someone else should have stepped up to take them. 'Might' have made a difference to result.

Wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference......the main problem wasn't his delivery, it was the non existent threat from our attacking players when the corners came in.

It was the same with corners from the left.

It is no coincidence that we have only scored once from a set piece this season.

It's true the corners have been poor, with a lot of them not reaching the first post, we all expect them to be short now, so why doesn't one of our players have the nous to make a run for the near post and flick it on, or more to the point why doesn't the manager have them practicing corners.

The only variation is when they take short corners and they usually cock themup

Why o why does Ross take most of the corners he is 6 ft tall needs to be in the box, he ok on free kicks, or if he has an angle where he can whip the ball in well, his corners seem to go awry like most takers we seem to have - even Baines was hitting the first man laser season!

Are completely undermining our season. Both offensively and defensively.

Crosses into our box generally cause chaos (we let the opposition cross the ball all too easily actually), but we really need to work on defending corners in particular. I'd even be happy for Roberto to bring in a defensive coach to help work on them. The many individuals responsible for conceding goals in this manner need calling out a bit more tbh.

In an attacking sense, it's hugely detrimental having Ross or Del take them - especially those pathetically ineffectual 'outswingers'. Fortunately Baines is back. I'd also have Cleverley taking them from the left hand side of the pitch.

Such a massive issue for me, and I honestly think it's the sole difference from us being a top 4 team at the minute.

Three things are required;
Clear the first man
Attack the ball, ( defending or attacking ) which takes a bit of grit* to put your head in where it might get hurt.
Practice; scoring from them and defending them

* do we think we have any in the squad?

A bit like the Howard thread, this one raises issues that Everton fans feel salient, but Roberto doesn't. Set pieces are just not on his radar. He is on record as saying that he considers them not very important.
Bottom line : nothing will be done.
