Seamus Coleman Calls Time On Everton Playing Career

I really don’t know what to say about this, to cite Seamus Coleman, a footballer, with Goebbels places you beyond contempt. I have never met Goebbels or indeed his like but I have met Seamus Coleman on a number of occasions and he has always been the perfect gentleman. While this club has had some very poor players over the years I don’t think there is anything to be gained in comparing them to Nazis no matter how obliquely.
Reading this clarification has made my night.

Actually laughed out loud.

Many fans remember the Seamus of 10 years ago, charging down the right flank. many appreciate his loyalty and take on board the multitude of testimonies to his paasion for the club and his influence in the dressing room. A minority focus only on his injury plagued last few years. In his last home game, it was incumbent on his team mates to play their hearts out, get a win against a very beatable Sunderland side and create the celebratory atmosphere to give Seamus the send off he deserved. You would hope they would play like that anyway, but for a colleague like Seamus, they should have busted a gut. Too many didn't and shame on them. The fans could have done better for him, but kind of understandable when the team has let us down badly for the last few weeks on top of the last few years.

I nice touch would be to give him a testimonial and give the fans a chance to say goodbye properly. The cheapskates.
A testimonial is exactly how he should have been sent off. Throwing him in at the end of a game we needed to win was throwing him into a toxic situation where the manager was waving the white flag. But that's Moyes all out. Doesn't know how to conduct himself.

Some of the toxicity surrounding Coleman is related to the overall toxicity of the club and its mismanagement. He didn't give himself contract extensions.

He did except them. What annoys a lot of people about Coleman`s last couple of seasons was how often he was able to go on international duty for Ireland while he was either unavailable for Everton due to injury. The club should have called time on his playing days here a few years ago, but it seems to be how we operate by giving contract extensions year after year to players that we should be shipping out.

Of course he accepted them. Who looks a gift horse in the mouth?

The final extension was particularly egregious as it was clear it was a jobs for the boys act from Moyes. Moyes is responsible for this.

There is no toxicity around Coleman. It literally is confined to about 3 lost souls on this forum. The feller is a saint like figure for everyone else.

Mother Theresa Coleman. The guy never had an original thought in his entire life. God help us if he's ever made manager of this club. Only good news is he won't last long.

The players on the pitch and the fans in the stands aren't there as some sort of supporting cast to the life story of Seamus Coleman. That's a mad take.
Coleman was a wonderful player for us and a loyal servant but he stayed on too long and the result of that was what we saw last weekend. It's no more complicated than that.
