Seamus Coleman Calls Time On Everton Playing Career

No, I'm saying as the captain he has a responsibility to help to try to maintain and motivate a dressing room to compete - that's the job role.

He is the leader of the dressing room, there to influence and part his experience. I hold the likes of Ratcliffe and Watson in the highest regard for this.

When he led us to survival, massive credit. Likewise, as that figure, and with his relationship between the players and Moyes et a. he must...

... understand that the fans have a right to be frustrated. Should we have stayed? Yes. But maybe if we did, he as captain, should be apologising to us.

Fair? I don't think it's unrealistic for fans to be disappointed with how we have petered out in the past few weeks, with a whimper.

That is fair but the fact that hes retiring means that he cant do that anymore.

And i dont think that its fair for us the fans to be expected it from him imo.

That should be tarks job now, shouldnt it?

100%, and I do. Do I think he (Tarksowski) is the leader on the pitch we need? I ain't so sure.

I'm a glass half-full kind of person and one that gives the benefit of the doubt, but equally if you're in a position of responsibility it's two-fold.

Credit where credit is due, and being held to account. Up until now (well today), Coleman was 'club captain', so accountability isn't unjustified.

But as you said, it isn't just him: Moyes, his backroom staff, other experienced professionals and the wider squad all need to look at themselves.

*to varying degrees

Been going the game for 26 years, I reckon that "Sixty Grand" on the big screen whilst we were getting beat at home to Sunderland is the most embarrassing thing I've seen.

Liverpool fans singing Rafael Benitez's name as they smashed us 4-1 at Goodison. I don't know whether that was embarrassing or just horrific, or if there is even a difference.

You're probably right with the sentiment. Should I have stayed after the final whistle? Yes, I probably should have, and it's not nice for Coleman.

But as others have said, it's a symptom of a deeper problem and I hope that Coleman can understand that. If he can't, as captain, well it speaks volumes.

This is our fourth worst home points tally, ever - 4th out of 127. We were challenging for Europe less than a month ago, and we've wilted.

It's a capitulation, meaning we're now in the bottom half, and we could finish as low as 14th. As the captain, he must shoulder some responsibility...

.. or as a minimum appreciate the fans' annoyance. In the heat of the moment, I couldn't clap what has been a season of gutless home performances.
Pretty sure he'd appreciate the fans annoyance today and not take it personally

I don't really get the need to give him a big send off today. He's not exactly Big Nev, Kevin Radcliffe or Peter Reid. The club won nothing with him as captain. I don't understand the need for speeches.

He has been rewarded handsomely during his tenure and the sad point is the longer he hung around the less he will be remembered as a rolls royce of a full back with recent memory of him being unable to clear a simple cross.

By all means give him a testimonial but that was a ridiculous situation today and highly embarrassing in my view.

Agree with every single word. An embarrassment
