Seamus Coleman Calls Time On Everton Playing Career

Shut up and grow up. He been getting 50 grand a week for the last 2 years and more for sitting on his arse on the couch, if he was so in love with Everton he would of retired 3 years ago.

Why would he of done that?

He's been offered a deal by the club.

It was the club who believed he offered something otherwise they wouldn't of kept him on would they. In fact players in interviews have said hes been integral to keeping training at high levels and keeping the morale high when we were battling relegation.

but apparently according to you if you care about something you have to walk away from it to prove how much you care about it.

Brilliant thinking. I hope you're not considered the brains of your family, for their sake.

Is this the same club that think Moyes is worth persevering with?

I suspect the issue is, therefore, with the club's judgement...

So its on the captain to shoulder the responsibility of the everton fans not caring enough to stay to give a send off to player who spent his whole career with the club and was loyal to the club and fan base. When he could of easily left us for more successful teams.

The absolute levels of entitlement from this fan base.

We were battling relegation last season, this year we were battling for Europe but thats not enough to keep evertonians at the ground to clap their captains retirement
We will finish on one point more this season than last. We have a manager who has done everything to stop us getting Europe, and Coleman represents the failings of the Moyes era more than most.

Really don't care whether he was forced to sign a contract or he wasn't, hes been a waste of money for 3 years. Tell what i was proud of today our fans for the attention that was given to that youngster who lost his life. I not really arsed if you think fans should stand there and applaud someone for doing there job for which he has been richly rewarded for the last 17 years.

I mean part of today is his fault for not knowing when the jig is up. His body has been breaking down for the last 2 years especially and he should have gone out with Goodison last season.

Baines retired whilst he still had some legs in him and he was better for it.

This the same Baines that was so bad at his end that he was getting turned inside out against wolves and just sat down and pretended to have a injury to get off the pitch.

And still played for another year where his last match was in a 3-1 loose to Bournemouth where he got subbed on and was at fault for their 3rd?

Are we talking about that Baines?!

I love baines but lets not rewrite history. He was in exactly the same situation coleman was in.

Dont be using the passing of a child to enforce your pathetic point you utter scumbag

Contract extensions for the boys. Lord knows Seamus had a few more than he ever did justify...

I do agree with this and i honestly think coleman has been pretty much finished at the top level since his leg break when he was 30.

But he must be doing something, as how many managers have decided to keep him on?

But regardless of that he still deserved better then what he got today

No, I'm saying as the captain he has a responsibility to help to try to maintain and motivate a dressing room to compete - that's the job role.

He is the leader of the dressing room, there to influence and part his experience. I hold the likes of Ratcliffe and Watson in the highest regard for this.

When he led us to survival, massive credit. Likewise, as that figure, and with his relationship between the players and Moyes et a. he must...

... understand that the fans currently have a right to be frustrated. Should we have stayed? Yes. But maybe if we did, he should be apologising to us.

Fair? I don't think it's unrealistic for fans to be disappointed with how we have petered out in the past few weeks, with a whimper.

I'm Irish. That leg break finished him off. I felt he was already on the slide.

I'm sure he's a great guy behind the scenes, but he's won absolutely nothing over all those years. At this point, I think he's merely the club mascot, beloved and cuddly and someone strangers point to when they need somebody to "embody" the alien culture they have walked into.
