Seamus Coleman Calls Time On Everton Playing Career

Nice1 for edit

I dont really agree with your other points tbh as I don't think he had much say in all that. Coming on, lap of honour etc. He's a humble guy but they do love him at the club and would want to do it for him. Presumably he wanted to say goodbye too.

Baines retired during Covid so there was no chance of a goodbye fuss, but people would've wanted it if fans were there.

Moyes bringing him on made no sense but he's the manager and everything he did today was rubbish, including that sub

Are you Irish by any chance?

For comparison, Baines was a local lad who was easily a much better player.

Retired, didn't want a fuss and realised he couldn't compete at the level required anymore.

Got himself into the coaching team from supporting the academy.

Coleman hasn't been able to play for a few seasons now. Has somehow got Moyes to believe he needs to come on today despite chasing a goal for Europe and then wanted a lap of honour after an embarrassing defeat.

Started the last game at Goodison (a year ago) and had to come off after half an hour.

Somehow able to play for Ireland this season showing he's not helping Everton.

Two possible reasons:

Is this Moyes rewarding his favourites with a coaching role etc because he likes having these types round him?

Is he a bit of a narcissist thinking he deserves all that today and last season despite adding nothing both seasons and being captain during our worst seasons?

Yes he is a blueand does stuff for charity and high fives the mascots but a legend who deserves this? Not for me.

Expected better than that from you mate.

You're usually very reasonable.

Has Coleman got aa coaching job? No.

IMO he'll reject it and want to prove he cam do it elsewhere first.

I'll be honest all of the "supporters" who left our captain to come out and say goodbye to a empty stadium, youre a absolute disgrace.

And dont give me the "im not staying after that performance" rubbish. Any other match fair enough but saying goodbye to our captain whos spent his whole career at Everton and could of easily jibbed us off a good few times.

But he didnt he was loyal to the club and the fans and you gang of rats wouldnt even give him 10 minutes to say goodbye.

Absolute embarrassment.

Get a grip lad.

Seamus has been a great servant to us and he deserved better I guess.

However, the fact he has been here this long is part of the problem with the club and the ambitions.

Coleman was a top player once upon a time but that has not been the case for a long time and a club with ambition would have thanked him warmly for his service and moved him on 4/5 years ago whereas we haven’t and there’s an argument to say that if he still had 90 minutes in him, a 50% Seamus is our best right back.

None of that is Seamus’ fault and by all accounts his leadership in difficult times has been immense but the fact he’s been around 17 years does say a lot about what kind of club we have become because i want my memories of some of my favourite players to be them going out on a high note seeing him limp through the last 3 years and leave to a half empty stadium

You're probably right with the sentiment. Should I have stayed after the final whistle? Yes, I probably should have, and it's not nice for Coleman.

But as others have said, it's a symptom of a deeper problem and I hope that Coleman can understand that. If he can't, as captain, well it speaks volumes.

This is our fourth worst home points tally, ever - 4th out of 127. We were challenging for Europe less than a month ago, and we've wilted.

It's a capitulation, meaning we're now in the bottom half, and we could finish as low as 14th. As the captain, he must shoulder some responsibility...

.. or as a minimum appreciate the fans' annoyance. In the heat of the moment, I couldn't clap what has been a season of gutless home performances.

The players should have given the crowd a guard of honour and a standing ovation as we left the ground today after the performances they've put on at home this season.
