SCRAP VAR

I blame inept refereeing. Players wouldn't dive if officials weren't intent on rewarding players with soft free kicks and penalties
It’s OK to blame referees to an extent, but it is a thankless task when everyone is trying to cheat you. If they encouraged a zero tolerance approach with heavy penalties it would disappear in months. Yellows and then reds for diving, etc. if you if a panel that handed out bans for stuff like Mendy then it would send a clear message.

Absolutely hate VAR. Funny how we never catch a break always seems to go against us. The clear red yesterday and the funny diagonal lines VAR incorporates and the super bias in house against the non super six.

I don't really understand the point of VAR, nobody minds refs making honest mistakes. The problem was never VAR in the first place it was awful corrupt refs who are given too much protection. So we got a pen at Blackburn a few years ago, that was only given cos he'd given 2 pens to Blackburn. I could see Mirallas fouled a City player for a penalty, because of that the ref in the next game decided to be just as bad to even it up. The RS have had 2 goals disallowed against them this week, both incredibly tight and we have had 2 goals for us disallowed. Add to Gordon's v Villa, Chelsea pen first game, we have already lost points that would put us up there. VAR is ruining the game, as Cahill said what's the point celebrating, for a goal to be chalked off.

Yeah it's sad: I've spent a lot of time in Thailand the past year and there is just Liverpool paraphernalia everywhere, from stickers on motorbikes to people of all ages wearing the replica shirts to knock off pieces of clothing with their crest on it, it's utterly mad.

You quite literally cannot go anywhere, mall, restaurant, even the kin beach, without seeing somebody wearing something Liverpool FC-related.

They played United in Bangkok recently and the match tickets were 100x more expensive than for a regular Thai league match, yet the stadium was packed out with a mix of 'fans' and 'influencers' attaching their allegiance to both clubs.

You'd see stunning Thai models on Instagram posing pitchside with their new Liverpool shirt, yet clearly unable to even name a player or state a single fact about the club. Or you'd see huge groups of 'fans' waiting at the hotel the club was staying at going mental at the sight of literally any white person that looked like they might possibly be representing the club, screaming at the top of their lungs at the sight of somebody like Nathaniel Philips or a club physio.

This is commercialism at its finest and, unfortunately, the likes of Liverpool and United have absolutely mastered it. The money they make off this alone will be in the tens of millions each year. Us, in comparison, I'd be gobsmacked if we even made 5% of what they do in South East Asia. It was the same in Singapore when I lived there too.

This keeps the big teams at the top, and in turn keeps mega money flowing into the Premier League. So of course the FA will do all they can to keep it exactly the way it is, they do not want an Everton defeating Liverpool when there are tens of millions of people around the world cheering for a Liverpool victory.

It's incredibly unfair.
Heh. Try countryside Malawi or anywhere else in rural Africa.

This isn’t true.

People loved Leicester winning. It’s talked about more than any other league win. That it was even possible is positive publicity for the Premier League.

Global fans either follow their clubs, or they follow glory.

Either they keep watching their team bumping along, like Everton fans, or they hop shamelessly from United to Liverpool or whoever else will rise in future.

The point is that they keep watching. Manchester United’s global audience is still colossal.

It’s incompetence, rather than corruption, that we need to iron out.

That incompetence partially manifests in siding with the team that’s expected to win. That definitely happens, but it’s not sinister, it’s just stupidity.
Peter Scudamore who was the chief executive of the Premier League at the time actually said that it was better for the “ brand” if Man Utd were winning the league. This thinking is still prevalent now.

It was fine the way it was.
Had been for over 100 years. It weren't broke and didn't need fixing.
Absolutely!

When VAR was introduced, it was said by the FA it would need a bit of time to get it right.
Get it right FFS. Football is a muti billion-dollar global industry, not a flat pack wardrobe. If it wasn't 'right', it should never have been introduced. What's that saying, oh yeah, "You had one job to do".
Yet here we are and after hundreds of matches there are still anomalies. Several every week. If it isn't 'right' now, it never will be.
Therin lies the rub. There is nothing wrong with VAR as such, only those who preside over it. So, my reading is that if the system is adequate, then those in charge of it are not and THEY are the ones who should be investigated.

As a footnote, notice how goal-line technology works (that game a couple of seasons ago aside)? That is because there are no people to interfere with the workings with their own particular agenda.

Football can be the only industry in the world that after introducing technology, increases the number of staff to operate it. Only for them to go and make things worse.

Make all games to be screened on VAR to be monochrome and the players to be silhouetted in order to remain anonymous, then get one of these cretins to view an incident. No player or team identity, a maximum of, say, one minute to decide the outcome because any longer takes away the 'clear and obvious' factor. Would that work? Sadly, we will never know.

I love Everton Football Club, but my love for football has been almost extinguished because of VAR and the blatant bias which accompanies it.

Peter Scumadore was also responsible for telling the referees association that it would be 'bad' for the brand if the players at the preferred teams get booked or sent off and miss matches. His words were to protect the elite teams at all costs, even at the expense of the less important teams.

No way was VVD going to see red yesterday, especially so soon after his internment. With Taylor showing yellow, that means, under FA rules, the match official has seen, and dealt with, the issue and, therefore, no further action will be taken.

Trebles all round.

Some good points made, VAR has been terrible this week and showed its flaws.

Described as “to be used to clear up Clear and Obvious mistakes! It’s a joke, and is ruining the game, administered on and off the pitch by clear and obvious incompetence!
Happened again at Old Trafford, perfectly good Arsenal goal chalked off!

its mainly the colour red. its a talisman or good luck thing all over the far east.

any other colour team shirts haven`t got a chance
Didn't do Cardiff any favours though. They must have still been tainted with a 'blue' odour.
But you are probably correct in your your assessment of the sea of red shirts etc, out there

If we say get rid of VAR, we might as well say get rid of referees whistles and linesman’s flags, there all the same thing effectively, tools to help the officials do their job, get rid of VAR and we will still be left with referees who arnt up to it and apply different rules to different teams. Everyone seems to be blaming VAR and ignoring the idiots running it.
But if the idiots running it are still making the same mistakes years after it has been introduced then what's the point of it at alll?

Championship football works well without VAR. Of course there's disagreement , but it's accepted as part of the game. How it should be imo
As it always was. VAR is far more corruptible than referees ever were, I hate it with a passion. The offside rule always favoured the team trying to score goals, now it's the complete opposite unless it's one of the big six. If Onana had raked his studs down Van Dykes leg, it would have been reviewed to a red 100%. Modern day football has been sanitised beyond reason.

Let's try and be completely objective here

Chelsea incident - I believe the goalie loses the ball - the contact is minimal and incidental. The goal should stand as the theatrics by Mendy were irrelevant

Newcastle incident - well, it's Lee Mason - but again - cause and effect - the "foul" on Willock (penalty?) means no foul on keeper. The lack of a stoppage means the goal could stand and the need for a penalty is negated.

Everton 1 (offside) - well I haven't watched it again in full. Did it really hit Milner's foot - does that (now) count as passing the ball back and making it a goal regardless - point 2 was Coady offside in any regard?

Everton 2 (penalty) didn't the ball brush Milner's hand on the way - isn't that an automatic review come what may?

Everton 3 (VVD) - doesn't that merit a review at the very least?

My view of these five are: West Ham and Newcastle robbed of a goal. Everton surely of at least a penalty and very reasonably a red card for VVD. It seems to me at least 4 of the 5 were wrong..
