Recently watched a documentary about the Celtic vs Rangers rivalry in order to learn more about it. I have Scottish friends on both sides but no matter how they each explain to me I've never managed understand enough to come down on either side.
I am Catholic and recently began to take my faith more seriously but truth be told, I have never felt affinity for either club or their supporters regardless. To me they're just as bad as each other, equally as cringey. I'm proud of my background but I don't love the Queen and but I also don't like IRA or feel any affinity for Ireland (even though I can trace family back to there).
Of you want to support a Scottish side stay away from either Celtic or Rangers (and I'm a Celtic fan) both are hated by fans from every club in an equal measure.
I'm Irish and Catholic (with a small 'c') But that doesn't define why I'm a Celtic fan. I love football and Celtic was the team I was first aware off from my dad, uncles and Brother.
When I go to games it appears more of an Nationalist/Republican to Unionist/Loyalist devide these days. The majority of fans in my experience are just football fans who see the rivally in a football sense. Off course their is no getting away from the religion aspect, but most probably haven't been near a church in years. My hatred of Rangers comes from them doing everything (legally and illegally) to stop us and everyone else in Scottish football winning trophies!
