He’s got far more ability than Rodwell ever had. Joyce also reckons he will be getting plenty of playing time, them giving him Lampards shirt number also suggests they have high hopes for him rather than seeing him as a quick way to make money.

More ability yes, but his career will go downhill from here, he has nowhere near the mentality to make it at Chelsea or as a top player.

Between the ears is where Barkley lacks and you can't put in what isn't there.

He might get a good chance once Conte goes but it is clear that Conte did not want him, he had no say in the transfer.

If they have high hopes for him they are in for a shock, they will soon see his show reel on YouTube and the 90 minute week in week out player are totally different, however he is worth a punt at 15m yes, I'm sure they can get that back one day for him

As it stands he's up against Pedro, Willian and Fabregas for a place in the team, good luck with that Ross, you'll have to play out of your skin to get a birth in that team, time to sink or swim.

His career was already going downhill at Everton, like properly stagnating to the point where he got dropped for club and country. I mean where is the motivation to stay ? Sure he’s an Everton fan but I imagine his career is more important to him and with things not going well over the past 2-3 seasons I think he’d be mad to turn down a move to a top club.

If he had another bad season or two at Everton (quite likely given how toss we currently are) he’d pretty much have to kiss goodbye to any hopes of a big move.

haha barca? As if. Even if that were true what on earth are they complaining about? It's been known since august we wanted to sell him, after the firts move to chelsea broke down, if they were interested, they'd have jumped in right then and stamped their interest. We'd have been much more willing to deal with barca than chelsea you'd imagine. I think there need's to be a transfer list app for clubs now, so that they get alerts when a player is available to buy or is close to joining another team, that would have solves barca's issue lol

Everton need to look at themselves here. With 2 years left on his contract you should be doing something then. Even last summer though with 1 year left why were we not more aggressive in getting him out of the door with a better price tag? Arsenal sold Oxlade Chamberlain for over 40 million with only one year left and I'm not sure who is the better player but Arsenal got a much better deal for their player.

totally agree, first week in the window and we seemed to sell with no real haggling. You'd have to presume this was done in the summer between us and chelsea, but i'm sure if the other teams like city and united knew he was going for just £15m, they'd have loved to have added to their english quota and have joined the race as well. The RS were stupid to pay that fee for the ox, and i suppose that was in the summer as opposed to now and tbf we SHOULD have been getting a similar fee then. I think the injury played it's part in that tbh, but still, i think the club was still thinking then there was a chance he could stay. His silence has spoke many volumes, he really has treated the club like crap.

He was guaranteed football here, or atleast he would have played a lot more here than at Chelsea being up against better quality.

It's a massive ask for him to break into that Chelsea team, especially with a manager that didn't want you.

Yes, but he’d be playing in a god awful team for a manger who likes to bypass midfield altogether, a manager who dropped him from the England squad.

If your career isn’t going very well but a bigger and better company comes in for you you don’t go “nah I’d rather stay here where my careers declined the past few years”... you bite their hand off especially if it means a chance at the big time.

It would have been easy to stay at Everton, garaunteed games, same old comfort zone he’s used to... going to Chelsea is a risk, it takes him out of the comfort zone.

Also you keep saying the manager didn’t want him, how do you know this ?

Ask any Chelsea fan and they’ll tell you Conte has never had a say on any of their signings.

Have you not seen Conte's comments when asked about the transfer, he says it's an investment for the club, talks like it's nothing to do with him, has no words to say on Barkley and what he will bring to the team or anything, it is odd to see a manager react like that to a new signing, it's a club business deal, not a transfer that he thinks will improve his team.

Conte has better options in Barkley's position, Barkley is going to have to play at the top of his game week in week out to try hold down a place in that team, and I just don't see him being up to the job.

I thought the same at first but then got told by my Chelsea mate to watch his interviews with other signings, it’s just how Conte talks. He’s not particularly articulate when speaking English, bit like Ross lol
