What kind of supposed Evertonian would do this to the club, and to sign off on Derby Day of all days is just the exclamation point on how much of a coward he is. Injured or not, if there was any chance that he'd be fit to play this game he'd have skived it off. I'm also convinced that if Chelsea still had to come to Goodison this season he'd have left this transfer until the summer so he could avoid the abuse, complete fanny this guy.

I'm not sure if £15m is worth the satisfaction that would have come from freezing him out of the team until the summer so he'd miss any chance of international selection.

Everton need to look at themselves here. With 2 years left on his contract you should be doing something then. Even last summer though with 1 year left why were we not more aggressive in getting him out of the door with a better price tag? Arsenal sold Oxlade Chamberlain for over 40 million with only one year left and I'm not sure who is the better player but Arsenal got a much better deal for their player.

I actually think he'll do well, playing with better players and all that but the way he's gone about the move, cannot wait till his first game back at Goodison, he will be getting some sh1t the horrible gobsh1te

He's a modern day footballer, complete sh1thouse but loves the money.

yes, it is all one big mistake, from when Koeman took over.

Really a bad way, to leave the club, not matter the reason.

can't see him make it, on Chelseas first team. What a waste.

This move in the January transfer window provides an insight into modern football. It must hurt Everton fans, among the most passionate and loyal in the land, to lose “one of their own”. It is the type of occurrence that fans can never fully understand, leaving their boyhood love. Depicted as a warm celebration, the “one of our own” song is one of the most poignant laments in football, an elegy to a distant age.

Does Barkley owe the club that nurtured him? Should he recall the time when he suffered that double leg break on England Under-19 duty, and Moyes went to his house, gave his support and then a new contract? Does Barkley have any responsibility to the fans in Gwladys Street holding up a banner saying “Here’s to you Ross Barkley, Everton loves you more than you will know”?

Professionals swap allegiances, fans don’t. It’s nothing new. Chelsea offer greater wages and a greater chance of trophies. He must, though, realise that Cobham is different to Finch Farm, Stamford Bridge different to Goodison. Everton are more of a family club, far less political than Chelsea. Emotionally, a better fit for Barkley would have been Totteham Hotspur and a man-manager of the calibre of Mauricio Pochettino. He will need an inner strength, although he can expect a rapturous reception from Chelsea fans, especially if he scores. Goals are a diamond’s best friend.

Read the opening post fully, whilst I respect your 'Put it to bed and be grateful we had him' argument, I think you're selling your fellow fans short. It's not like Barkey has earned his respect & achievements. I must reiterate, you'll know more than me, as I've not watched him anywhere near as much, but when I've watched him he's had moments of genuine quality, followed by spells of poor form and a lack of consistency. I can remember at least 2 games v Liverpool where we was invisible, making no impact on the game at all, despite the pre-match hype he could hurt Liverpool and be a match-winner. If you want to be a legend isn't this where you make your mark? He's hardly set the stage on fire with the national team too. While I appreciate he is very talented, unplayable on form, he can't live off the 'he has potential to be world-class' tag forever.

I'm not as clued-up as the majority on this thread but, it seems a classic case of 'money talks'. Local lad, huge potential, I'd have loved for him to think 'Yes, Chelsea could double my wages, but I'm not guaranteed to start, I owe a lot to Everton, I've got unfinished business here. I want them to remember me and leave a legacy like Ferguson, Cahill did.. I want to prove the Everton doubters wrong. I'm going to work hard, force my way into the team and get back to my best". Maybe, I'll get my 'big move' in time, but I owe it to Everton to end on better note' - Unfortunately, that's just a deluded dream of mine, where loyalty & dignity mean something. Ultimately, money is the primary factor behind 95% of transfers.

I don't buy this 'Barkey was pressured in to it by his agents' bollicks too. Yes, the agents behind this are massively involved, as they too stand to make huge money - However, Barkley will ultimately have the final say.

He's picked up a ridiculous wage from Everton for months, whilst doing nothing to really justify it. Not to mention, he's cost the club millions in this whole 'Will he stay or will he go?' saga which people have discussed.

Everton fans have every right to feel short changed - bloke is a tit. Fully deserves his status as 'Judas'.

I think he'll regret this decision.

The problem is not Ross, the problem is the complete lack of stable leadership at the top of the club

Is poor leadership at Everton the reason why Ross chose to stay on our payroll, delay a £30m+ move for 6 months and cost us £15m so that him and his agent could personally profit?

Everton's off-pitch management has been a problem for decades, but I don't think it can be used as a excuse for some shoddy behaviour from modern, spoilt footballers with over-inflated egos.
