Rooney Sell On Clause

Player Valuation: £10m
If Chelsea do sign Rooney would we still get a slice of the cash?

This is from the BBC in 2010 (last time he handed in a transfer request)

This would also benefit Everton, who have a 25% sell-on clause of any future transfer fee above the £27m the Toffees sold him for. So if United sell Rooney for £57m then Everton will get 25% of £30m

I don't think anything has been confirmed but it is widely believed we waived any sell-on clause when we purchased either T-How or Phil the Pointer.

They have rejected a bid of 30 million, transfers are silly this season due to the extra money coming in. :dodgy: Chelsea paid 50 million for Torres so we could see another bid coming in. Wouldn't be surprised if the 25% is wiped due to getting players of them such as Neville, Gibson and Howard.

I think its been said in the past that we waived the sell on fee and some stage of our past 10 years of being Man Utds mistress and having the likes of Saha, Howard, Neville and Gibson.

On the fee front, I have no idea where some of the values come from these days.

Utd will NOT sell to a rival!!

Unless its a silly 50M offer or something, even then I think they'd be reluctant. It would mean so much more than just a transfer to utd/Chelsea if a deal was done!

Still keeping my fingers crossed for a loan... Lol

This would make sense given the supposed half a million paid for Gibson. Didn't Sunderland agree to pay something like £4 million for Gibson the summer before we signed him? I think any prospect of a Rooney sell-on windfall is zero on this presumption

Gibson only had 6 months left on his contract when we signed him, hence the price.

The rumours about the clause being swapped for Neville or Howard are wrong, as it was still in place when he threw his toys out the pram in 2010. Having said that I doubt it'll be worth much anyway, as I can't see him going for more than £35m

I dunno, they were quick to pony up £50mill for a banged up Torres from a team not in the champions league.

United selling to their title rivals I don't think will happen, and it it does it'll be for big money. 30mill+ is nothing.

I'm sure they'd prefer him to go anywhere but Chelsea, but I'm not sure what choice they'll end up having in the matter tbh, as who else that could afford his wages, would currently want him?

Going by the rumours of transfer targets this summer ( Bale £100m, Suarez £50m) Rooney has got to be worth more than £30m?

Thing is that Rooney is on huge wages, in the fringes of the first team / playing out of position and wants to leave.
If Suarez gets unsettled enough it might very well be that they'll end up getting £30m for him.
While Rooney is definetly a top top player the fact that he's trying to get out of the team and the fact that he costs Utd £300k a week (and that the buying side will have to match the wages) means that he's prolly not worth as much even though it's true that selling him would weaken Utd and get some proven winners who aren't 30+ to say Chelsea.

EDIT:
Oh and since if there's still a clause we'll only get a percentage of the money that goes over £27m so can't see us getting a major windfall from it.

This has got to be the oddest saga in the PL i have ever seen, UTD the most successful team in the PL, and he wants to leave?

The only reason he wants to leave are a number of reasons

1. Off the field problems, or a problem with a member of the team.
2. He just wants more money, if he is on that alleged £200k a week, he wont get much more than that at chelsea? £250k? a week? If he decides to leave for an extra £50k a week - it shows the character of him, and moreso that scummy agent of his.

He doesn't like Moyes and he doesn't like to play second fiddle to RVP.
That and his agent needs a few new houses.
