Roberto Martinez discussion

He was drafted into the Martinez system...it's alien to him. He's a no nonsense blood and guts defender (well, he was) he cant play a distribution game.

I agree, he's captain and that will save his arse. But he should be punted ASAP. It's up to Martinez really: if he wants to lose his job putting faith in yard dogs like this then he cant have any complaints if he gets the sack next season.

It has to be Stones plus someone like Van Dijk for me.

You wanna replace an England International with some yard dog from the SPL?

There's enough good stuff in the bank from last season to give Roberto a chance. The teams performances in the league this season have not been acceptable and neither has some of Robertos tactics and lack of substitutions.Yesterday was like a throw back to the Walter Smith days and i would hope that it was our rock bottom point this season. There is grounds for serious concern with the performances so far but all this Martinez out talk is mass hysteria that would do anyway Koppite and Geordie proud. We had a dreadful second full season under Moyes as well.In fact we only finished with 39 points that year and could easily have been relegated if it wasn't for the rubbish that finished below us.The mood is downbeat at the moment but we have a winnable tie in the next round of the Europa League an FA Cup to play for and i would hope we can finish as high as possible in the league. So im still aiming for anything from 4th place to 6th place.A massive improvement is required Roberto you need to mix things up a bit. Were far too predictable. We need to vary the gameplan and keep the opposition honest.A lot of improvement is required all round but i still think we can finish ahead of the noisy neighbours. This team has more than enough quality in it to turn this around.Oh and let's make sure that Goodison remains an intimidating ground for the opposition not our own team.;)

I am afraid, this is it for me, Martinez needs to go now.

This was extremely embarrasing and even worse predictable. We are playing without any confidence and belief. The toothless nature of our attacking play is worrying to say the least, the amount of chances wasted with childish finishing. The midfeld were overrun, couldnt protect the defence and were dominated by effing Reed. The defence was so poor, so first goal was embarrasing and their was absolutely amateurish defending by Distin.

In two season Martinez havent improved the defensive record and play, the midfield is still poor and the strikeforce is dependent on a extremely injury-prone player. The is no indication that Martinez knwos what is doing and what he needs to do to improve this.
Keep these posts coming Chico. I have just made a very big bowl of popcorn....

You can't now start introducing issues concerning the quality of the opposition. How do we know the teams we were playing in the Moyes sequence weren't more difficult than those in the Martinez sequence?

Quite frankly i can't be arsed. If you want to then go for it. Personally i imagine over that kind of sample size you would get an even number of good and crap teams.

I would love Van Dijk but the fact that Arsenal and Spurs and Liverpool are sniffing round means we won't get him frankly due to wages and/or London.

I agree Jags doesn't work in Martinez's system and the best our defence has been was last spring with a distin/stones partnership but I'm not sure we'll get that lightning in a bottle again and Jags hasn't been awful the last few games

Martinez changed the system from QPR because he saw an opportunity to go for the throat of Southampton. Unfortunately it didn't work. For every one of his schemes (rom on the right vs. Arsenal) that works there's one that doesn't. Being blunt I thought Southampton played the best I've seen them play since the 8-0 because they came expecting us to play a certain way and we did. Apart from the top 4 all teams will play the same way against us (2 banks, press hard at defence, exploit flanks for counters.)

Your correction makes no difference to the point of the post, which is that we've undergone far worse runs of form under Moyes and came out of it.

Our three most recent league losses have been Spurs away, City away, and Southampton Reserves away.

Bit of perspective.

Corrected for accuracy.
