Roberto Martinez discussion

It's not fair that you're resorting to facts. How can these lads try and get a successful lynch mob together if you keep on bringing reality into this?

Stop it. Stop it now.
Umm...forgive me if I don't understand percentages, but isn't that around 35%?

One more loss and it's exactly 33%. And that would be, by maths, worse than Moyes, no?

If Moyes produced some of absolute dross that Martinez has this season he'd be getting pelters for it, but it seems that Martinez is exempt from criticism in some quarters.

I feel like it's more that this is Martinez' first real stumble.

After 8 years if you go into a bad patch it feels different to when he's just got here and he's still bulding a team.

I think if we don't win anything this year, and we play like this again next, you'll see knifes out for real but after 18 months, 12 of which he barely put a foot wrong, people are still erring on the side of support.

And rightly so, frankly.

Your correction makes no difference to the point of the post, which is that we've undergone far worse runs of form under Moyes and came out of it.

Our three most recent league losses have been Spurs away, City away, and Southampton away.

Bit of perspective.
Those last 3 away defeats, on each occasion, the 3 teams in opposition were there for the taking, and a half decent display ( not even anything special), with effort , a bit of bottle and some tactics , could of yielded 9 points instead of a big fat zero !

it worried me the way he said we were a poor defensive display away from getting a result. We offered nothing up top all game.

How many games could we say the exact same thing about though this season? Far too many, and nothing changes, in fact they get worse as Martinez seems to dig his heels in even more ,and becomes even more determined ,it's his way or nothing !

I think yesterday was the first time I truly think he got it wrong. The game was crying out for someone to give us width -- everything was going through the middle and it was way too clogged in there -- but given the fact a half-fit Pienaar and an out-of-form McGeady were the only options, that may explain his decisions. I know I'm not the first to say Barkley is not a winger, in fact, I think his best position may be where he played vs. QPR.

It's depressing because we aren't playing good enough and haven't been all season. If the performances were there, or there were signs of improvement, you could take some confidence, but there is nothing.

After beating Wolfsburg alway, we all thought the turner had been turned. We went into the Spurs away match with confidence. After Mirallas put is in front it looked liked things were heading in the right direction. That's not to say we were back to last seasons level. We were just showing some signs of improvement.

Unlike some on here, I can't see a quick fix to our problems. I potentially see things getting worse before they get better. Unfortunately I can't see our league campaign amounting to anything that constitutes success. However, I think with time, Martinez will get Everton into the top 4 and amongst the big hitters of Europe.

The guy got over 70 points in his first season. He is clearly a very talented manager, capable of big things. The same go's for Brenton across the park. He nearly won the league last year and is not all of a sudden a crap manager. From last seasons exploits, both deserve time and the opportunity to rectify their mistakes.

However, out of the two, Martinez will be given that opportunity, I don't think Brenton will. One of the most attractive selling points of the Everton job is that the manager is given time.

Martinez was always a long term appointment. Last year was a bonus that no one expected. We need to get behind the team on Friday, make Goodison a bear pit, and get a much needed 3 points. Martinez is here for the long term.
