Roberto Martinez discussion

Back then we really had a small squad with limited quality, some of the teams we put out still make me shudder.

We haven't had it easy this year either, so hopefully that'll improve and so will our form.

Agree with the quality thing, but i think there's also a lot more quality in the league in general now than there was five years ago.

A manager who got us to 5th place last season and just breezed through a tough Europa League group with a game in hand doesn't know what he's doing because he makes some team selections you disagree with and we've lost a few games.

"Pereira in"
You need to take a step back and read what you are writing.
Last season has gone you could just as easily say the season before he took wigan down waving the white flag.
Yes the europa league has been good because his way of playing suits it.
The problem is he can't see its not working in the premier league he just carries on with it regardless.
Against qpr barkley was brilliant so what does he do stick him on the left wing and brings back barry and shoves eto'o in the midfield against southampton reserves awful man management.
I have never heard evertonians boo when they are three nil up before that is telling the manager what they think.
Its not the losing its the not doing anything about our slow turgid football which is worrying fans

Don't think you can judge progression on half a season mate.

Arsenal looked like they were on the way to winning the league this time last year, then they totally bottled it and barely finished 4th. You'd have said Arsenal had progressed in December, but not in May.

Brennan there is the big ? mark. Who can tell, our performances this season so far have had a certain lacking it may change but not looking promising.

The main problem is that he doesn't seem to be learning. He keeps repeating the same mistakes and that is unforgivable. He is young himself and so we all knew he'd make mistakes, but last season when things went wrong he remedied them. He clearly knew what was going wrong and he got a handle on it. This season? It's like it's his evil, slightly simple twin brother at the helm.

You can talk about disagreeing with tactics, but surely not making a sub in the entirety of a pathetic 3-0 loss is objectively worthy of criticism. Even if you say the bench isn't good enough, then most of the players on it were his signings and so he deserves stick for that.

We have had awful injuries, that is true, but I have two responses to that point: Moyes knew how to handle injuries, Martinez so far hasn't shown that -- just suffering injuries isn't a good enough excuse to take away responsibility from poor managerial decisions. Secondly, even with key players back, we've been poor. Southampton were decimated yesterday and we had a far stronger squad (both relative to our best XI and in general). Yet they won. 3-0.

at the end of the day - the same reasoned argument for lukaku and barkley still being very young - martinez is also very young, he's going to make mistakes, of course he is. he seemed to learn them quickly last season and kept rectifying, but seems to be a step backward this season. one step back and two steps forward though hopefully; it's his first season managing in europe lets not forget, we'll play about 50+ odd games, he's still trying to figure out the balance of who should play and how many times etc. he'll have a better idea at the end of the season regarding where he's gone wrong.

he's still very young for a manager, moyes was making the same mistakes 10 years on and wenger is still making the same ones over and over again despite being one of the most experienced in the business. i don't see martinez going down the same road as those two, think he's a bit bolder and more reactionary myself.

it's all very well us sitting here saying he should play him etc, if he's fit for the bench, he's fit enough to start etc. we don't know the ins and outs though.

He's still got my support but I can understand why some turned on him after yesterday. The transfer window will be here very soon and hopefully he'll address the glaringly obvious problems with the squad. If he doesn't I fear the crowd will turn completely. It needs sorting straight away as well. Not on the last day of the window

Yesterday no subs made and yet there were players on the bench who arguably could have made a difference but not on was used. Boy I would like to hear his explanation of that. If they were not fit why are they on the bench.

What the hell is wrong with Roberto?

Hibbert new contract, Osman new contract, Howard new contract, Distin will probably get an extension before the season ends...
Exactly why give the long contracts to the old players.
Is it true barry has signed on for 3 years awful management decisions yet again.

Fifth Everton defeat by a 3+ goal margin under Martinez. 5 in past 42 games. Just 2 in club's previous 145 games.

Stolen fact there.

Very very worrying.

3-0 anfield 2012
3-0 wigan 2013

Under Martinez.

6-3 Chelsea 2014
3-0 Southampton 2014
4-0 Liverpool 2014
4-1 Arsenal 2014
3-0 Swansea 2014.

So 2 in 2 years too 5 in a year
