Roberto Martinez discussion

We had far worse periods under Moyes, anyway. 2009-10 season we went on the following run in all competitions:

DDLLLDLWLLLWDDLDD

Won two games between October the 4th and December 26th. By comparison our form over the same period this season:

LWDWDWDWWLWLLW

And yet some would have you believe this is the worst we've ever played and we're going to get relegated. Madness.

this is what baffles me, Martinez is not getting the time moyes has...I think its because the crowd are not willing to adapt to his style of play..a long ball from the back LOOSs like we are progessing up the field and potential to score, when in reality it was giving the ball away, its about perception for me

Since the season started:

8 wins
8 draws
7 losses

That's a higher win ratio than Moyes managed in his entire tenure at Everton, which was 42%. Even taking into account the relatively poor start to this season compared to last, Martinez's win ratio stands at 48%. You won't find higher than that outside of the money clubs.

@Brennan is this you...? lol

We're playing rubbish!

And that's largely down to Roberto's team selections. We look very disjointed. Almost like the england team...trying to fit the best 11 names onto the team sheet regardless of whether there playing out of posistion.

All in all I think Martinez is getting the time. It's only the odd person calling for a change and everyone knows that's ridiculous.

Martinez spent a lot of money this summer (by Everton standards) and we haven't seen our performances kick on. Questions/criticism are inevitable, just as they were under Moyes.

It's ironic really. Both ex-Swansea managers, in charge of the Merseyside clubs, both having pretty poor seasons so far.

My take on Martinez - he's a talented, young manager. But for me he strikes me as someone who should be in charge of a small Spanish club like Alaves, not Everton who are looking to break into the Champions League places.

He doesn't seem to have a 'Plan B'. Now, this accusation is thrown around a lot by armchair 'know-it-all' supporters these days but in this case it's definitely true. His teams are easy on the eye but let's remember that he took Wigan down into the Championship because he insisted on tippy tappy and never had an alternative tactic.

The real acid test for RM is when Distin and Jagielka retire/move onto new clubs (don't they have like a combined age of 70?!) and he has to build his own defence - something that, like the big nosed twonk in charge of your red neighbours, has always struggled with.

Is it true that yesterday, he didn't make ONE substitution? If so, that's ridiculous in a game where the opponents are in dire form and have half their squad missing.

Martinez had the luxury of spending £25 million + in the summer yet Everton currently look worse than I've seen them in a very long time.

Would I sack RM if I was in charge? No, last season gives him enough credit in the bank to see him through until May 2015 at least, and again, exactly the same situation applies to the ol Fish Face across Stanley Park.

But it will be very interesting to see how he handles the next summer transfer window IF Kenwright allows him that time and funding. Because there's one thing for sure - Everton desperately need a new defence, just as we (Man Utd) do.

If I was a gambling man, I don't think RM will be at Everton the season after next. He doesn't strike me as someone who should be in charge of a club flirting with the notion of CL footy.

As for defence we have the young players there but RM is not trying them out, sticks to the OLD guard!

Deluded for not wanting rid of a manager because we've lost a few games. Good one.

Take a look at the results list i posted above. You'd have sacked Moyes in 2009 i'm guessing, in your infinite wisdom.
Fans are not wanting him sacked for losing a few games they are worried because he does not know what he is doing.
Our football is turgid backwards garbage and for him to come out with the statement yesterday that he did not use his subs because we were doing well beggars belief.
He is lost and playing players out of position they are looking lost as well.

questions/criticism is fine..Martinez can improve, the thing is I think he CAN change ..the other bloke never would

Agree with most of that except the bit about him not being here next season if it carries on, Kenwright is proven to back his managers in tough times and unless we somehow end up relegated he won't panic and get rid of Martinez (and there's no way we will be relegated or even close).

You are so right on that one.

A manager who got us to 5th place last season and just breezed through a tough Europa League group with a game in hand doesn't know what he's doing because he makes some team selections you disagree with and we've lost a few games.

"Pereira in"

In that period we suffered 21 different injuries to players. This season up to the 15th of December we had suffered 22. Don't know how long they all were respectively but we've had a hard time of it this year also.

Back then we really had a small squad with limited quality, some of the teams we put out still make me shudder.

We haven't had it easy this year either, so hopefully that'll improve and so will our form.
