Roberto Martinez discussion

Yup 9 points out of 21 in those games thats 42% of the points on offer

so out of our 36 possible that form would give us 15 not 16 so I'll refine my estimate down to 50

Again, missing the point, but okay, have it your way.

Let's just wait and see.

However much you want RM out, it isn't going to happen until this season is over. There's a third left so let's see where we end up. Personally, I think we'll get about another 20 points which may see us finishing 8th (ish).

That, by all definition, would be progress from last season albeit disappointing I understand, but not enough to get him sacked imo.

It may not end up that way though, so we'll see.

Okay, so that's taking the whole of the season into account.

How about going on recent form? For the issue of fairness, let's do it from the turn of the year as that can be identified as a definite 'half-way point' in the season?

Our recent form, since the turn of the year, in the league.

DDDLWWL

Compare that with the teams up to 5th, and down to 14th (So I'd say within touching distance either way)

Man Utd - WDWLWDL
Sotton - LWWWDWW
West Ham - WWLDWLD
Liverpool - LDLWLDW
Watford - LLLWDLW
Stoke - LWDLLLW
Chelsea - WDDWDDW
Palace - LLLLLDL
WBA - WDLDDLW

To me, that shows that we have just as much chance of being able to finish higher than we are now, based on our recent form.

We have improved for sure, which is why I don't want him gone yet, I want to see how far this goes.
But we need to improve massively for this to be anything less than poor. An isolated run of 6 games shows just that, how we are doing right now, and its okay.. its normally shown over 6 games but 7 works just as well.. 2 wins, 3 draws, 2 defeats.. its not exactly turning a corner.

What is though is our defence and its that which gives me hope because with the ability to defend, comes the ability to win games, and the ability to get the points and league positions we want to see.

So another words 'I just don't know' lol
Seems to be a lot of that, people know its not good but hope it will get better, at the same time they have a gut feeling that it wont, so what do we do type of scenario ?

Its meaningless without the context of league position

Ok then so 2 seasons ago I would say that it was our best PL season. Are you saying that we should forget the 72 points and only concentrate on 5th place?
If that's the case then he has a way to go to even equal Moyes with him having two 5th places and a 4th. He doesn't look close to equaling Moyes.

Getting dangerously close to having to mention our PAR score here lol...

That's what I like about the league table... you don't need to know the percentages of anything.. your either above or below a team, therefore you have either done better or worse than them.
Do better than enough teams and you win the league.. regardless of how many points you won.

What exactly was your point? You’ve split it down in to 6 game sequences. There are 12 games remaining. So going by your post we’re currently 6 points behind Man Utd but are both averaging 9 points from 6 games so we wont make any points up on them. Sotton are averaging 6 points per 6 games better than us, so they’ll pull further away, West Ham same points so no change, the rs our average is 1 point better over 6 games so we’ll make 2 points up on them but they’re already 3 ahead so we’ll be behind them still. Watford and Stoke we’ll make up 2 points and overtake them by 1. Chelsea are will gain 8 more points than us and being 2 behind will end up 6 ahead, Palace and WBA will stay behind us. So you have us in 10th in your logic and you think that’s good?

Well of course I don't know for sure. But neither do you or bluewally or anybody else.

It's in the balance but I don't think trying to replace Martinez at this point would help at all.

Give him until the end of the season to decide whether it's a poor one.

Of course, the ones who have made their minds up won't change it.

No I'm saying it needs to be a combination of both. 60 points and finishing 10th is not the same as 60 points and finishing 6th.

No, I split it into seven games to indicate the form of all the teams around us fairly.

And that shows that our current form is pretty par for the course (bar Chelsea and Southampon) with the sides around us...

It doesn't mean it's all going to carry on that way at all, it was just an observation.

I'm just not the optimist you are.

I believe it would take a significant upturn in form to achieve a points total to make this a good season and I haven't seen enough of an improvement to think that will happen

No I'm saying it needs to be a combination of both. 60 points and finishing 10th is not the same as 60 points and finishing 6th.

But 60 points is never going to finish 10th. It would have you 7th upwards though which is where I see us. 7th with 60 points I can accept. 7th with 50 points and he has to go.

What it does do is send out a message that this is not good enough for Everton football club. If you then court and even set up a deal in place for a top manager to take over in the Summer, any players who were maybe thinking another season of mid table is not for them, may think twice about leaving.

There is no doubt that Klopp at the rs will attract better players than brenda would, because people know he has a track record of achieving things. A manager showing consistent mid table finishes won't have the same pull.

What's your idea of a poor/good season blueToff?

But is that not obvious because that's where we are in the table? If anything it weakens your point that you think things will improve. Because they're not, we're just par for the course with WBA.
