Roberto Martinez discussion

The thing you have to ask yourself is, if someone is truly on Team Martinez and believes fully in him, why would they be bothered if someone critcises him?

Surely they'd just brush it off and get on with things?

"The other person is wrong and that's that. On with my life"

If they get their back up over the critiscm, does that mean that it's making them question their own beliefs?

Now, there's certainly a difference between making valid and reasoned critiscms and just taking cheap shots at the manager. I can understand people getting wound up about the latter, but there are some who seem to get equally wound up about the former

Just interesting to me really

I'm glad you've admitted to questioning your own beliefs that scottish football is worthwhile and duffy was the next baresi.

I think 1 or 2 are totally obsessed with him in a freaky way but most debate with a normal mind.

The thing you really have to ask is 'should team Martinez exist'. As far as I can see there are a lot of fans not bothered about Martinez in particular but want Everton to improve so have questioned him and certain players as to why we can't do better. Wjats wrong with this? Since when did wanting Everton to do better get equated with wanting the manager out? The only difference is that some fans think we should have got more points already this season and some think that we'll get more later in the season. Ultimately we all want the same thing apart from the odd few people who'd rather be right than successful.

But whose ever had a reasoned argument on here about Scottish Football?

It's always just "Scottish togger is pyar tosh lar!"

Very eloquent

The argument has always been that given scottish club have been as successful in europe as azerbaijani clubs over the last 5 years (genuinely true, look it up), dominating in that league does not mean players have proved themselves good enough for a much higher quality league.

I mean the last time we bought someone from azerbaijan, he killed a man. That's not what we want from our footballers.

We buy a guy from celtic and history indicates that we're condemning an innocent scouser to death.

James McCarthy and Stephen Naismith say Hi mate

They're both doing just fine, and they came from Scotland

(I know you're going to be arsey and say that Jimmy Mac came from Wigan, but he was there courtesy of Hamilton Accie's, so jog on chuffy)

We're on the march with Bobbie's army, We're all going to Wembley, And we're really shake em up, When we win the League Cup, Because everton are the greatest football team.

If we get past City then absolutely yes. Progressing past them in a double header would be a monumental achievement and probably our best result since beating United in 04/05 to kill off Liverpool's champs league hopes.

The run so far though has seen us beat off Barnsley Reading Boro and Norwich. Three of those teams are in league's lower than ours and we went to extra time twice. We then drew with Norwich's second string at home before winning a shoot out.

So yes, being in a semi is great, but only bearing City turns this run into any credible achievement. That isn't being negative, it's being realistic, scraping past lower league sides is the least I'd expect from a good Everton team. Just because we've cocked up in the past doesn't mean the bar should be lowered.
