RM comparison with Mourinho from last night

A lot of nonsense is spoken about managers and tactics -it's players that win and lose games.

They simply didn't turn up, or weren't fully fit or whatever.

That was only the 3rd defeat of the season, and I think it speaks volumes that we're disappointed (aside from the fact that it was THEM). We're not doing too badly, hopefully the (understandable) post-derby kneejerk will pass quickly and we can move on. Didn't we suffer a 5-0 defeat under Howard in the '80's? This may spur us on for the race for 4th.

deandixie my point was, it's one match. Yes it's a 4 0 loss but teams sometimes get it handed to them, lfc battered spurs, is their season now over? have they been found out? i remember arsenal getting a tonking once, it happens. we've had 3 losses all season and an injury jinx like no other team.

Grow up and realise it happens, we battered stoke 4 0 at our place, yet they learnt from it and changed their play against us at home, we were lucky to draw.

Do you think RM is simply going to shrug and say oh well, business as usual, same plans every game. Things will change, lessons will be learnt from this

Just like Moyes didn't allow us to get hammered by Arsenal 7-0.

I honestly doubt that...as our staff will analyze the game in full and work on it to try and prevent that from happening again...that's part of their job and I think we have a great manager who I trust to address those issues. We made a few serious mistakes...and those will be addressed. Learning from mistakes is what is important and I am sure we will...and in a way I think it will make us a better team.

If you look at Martinez at Wigan, he got hammered a good few times, yes he had a lower quality of players but he never learned to adapt his tactics, I appreciate him sticking by his guns but sometimes you need to switch things around.

He can do one, Moyes wouldn't have let us get so badly hammered. Martinez was a fool last night, his tactics did not work, and he stuck with them and landed us with the worse defeats by them in 32 years.

The other negative for the night was now the rest of the league know how to stuff us, I'm fully expecting 2/3 more of these hammerings this season.

Forza Bobby? Nah you're OK.

Fortunately, some of us are not so short sighted to think that losing to the neighbours defines a season. That's the impression I am getting from your posts in this thread.

None of us like losing to them, but your anger is getting in the way of sense.

Moyes wouldn't have bent over like that for them. He would have sat back after we went one down. Kept a bit of dignity.

I'm no Moyes fan either, hated him for years.

You need to chill and gather your thoughts. Moyes bent over for them the last 11 years at Anfield, Old Trafford etc.
Martinez has the minerals to try and win even though it cost us big style yesterday whilst moyes would have seen what was going on and gone for damage limitation and ACCEPT a 1-0 defeat. The question is has Moyes ever gone to Anfield to win?

I would rather get beat trying to win 100 times out of a 100. We had Jags and Alcaraz probably not 100 per cent fit, Stones out of his depth, Peinaar and Barkley not ready and Lukaku injured. They may be excuses but all the same, true.

It was not as embarrassing as the 3-0 loss against 10 men under Moyes.

Fume level = through the roof

Balance to argument = zero

Football knowledge level = angry bloke in pub shouting at the tv

I also think it shows how far we've come with RM that we expected to beat them at Anfield, something we never do,

The end of the day whether it was 1 0 or 4 0 or 10 0 it's 3 points. We lost 3 points last night. We've had 3 losses all season. We turn up to every game now expecting and wanting a win.

A quick question....how many defenders did Wigan have out injured when they got relegated that season...and how many were fit to play?

You're probably right, I'm still seething. :(

Not 100% but its similar to whats going on at West Ham now

Lose 2-3 of your back four when your down the bottom and your in trouble

What a a beautiful way to go into a derby. 'Its ok lads, just get beat by one goal so we can keep a bit of dignitiy'

Are you having a laugh??

He got his tactics wrong, he's aware of it, we are aware of it and what?? its football, it happens, he's not the first and i'm sure he won't be the last who goes into a big game and makes a mistake in his selection and approach.

Spot on this in every way.

Moyes bent over for them with his team selection when we got beat 3-0 by them. Make no mistake Moyes took some hammerings in his time at Everton as well. It happens.

Martinez took a gamble on some player's fitness as the squad was down to the bare bones and it backfired massively. I personally think the main problem he made was playing Alcaraz instead of Hibbert, and Pienaar instead of Osman. Two local lads who were fitter than their counterparts.

He was right about being naive. Barry made a mistake for the goal which led to Lukaku getting injured and then lost his discipline and pushed too far forward, as he seemingly tried to make amends. The defence kept pushing too high up seemingly forgetting none of them have any pace to cover. Whether Martinez could have fixed those issues during the game is another matter, but hopefully he'll have them sorted before Saturday if the regulars are still injured.

I agree...and if I am not mistaken they ad 6 defenders out at one time...which mid/bottom table team wont concede buckets full when they get hit like that.
