RM comparison with Mourinho from last night

Funny because I went into work today and my red ****e mate was waiting for me and as I said to him it was one of the worst defensive displays I've seen from us but at least we tried to win (failed badly) the game instead of playing for a draw.

Didn't see anyone moaning when we went to old trafford or the emirates.

Different personnel though. If we had tried to keep a high line in either of those games with a half-fit Jagielka and Alcaraz, we would have gotten burned in those as well.

Both managers seem roughly equal to me, results would suggest the same as well, Martinez has done a great job in getting us playing the Bobby way so quickly.
Yesterday was a blip, it happens, easy to see what went wrong...

Injuries lost us most of our defence and attacking threat
Slow defence against quick strikers killed us
Wrong tactics of playing a high line highlighted the slow defence that losing Distin and replacing with Alkaraz gave us, brilliantly exploited by muncher

But that doesn't excuse not having a plan B.
People say he is tactically going to learn from this... he won't.. he will play 4-2-3-1 every game regardless, with a short passing game relying on long shots and silky runs to unlock the defence, this is both his strength and weakness in the same way the previous manager was stubborn in his way of playing.

Martinez is marginally better than Moyes for me, but so far not by much, but as a fan of the progress Moyes made under us, that is far from a crticism.

Nah, I know it's tempting to big them up after last night to save face but this isn't a classic liverpool team by any means.

maybe not classic but with Suarez, they are damn good. That guy is an incredible footballer. His finishing and his creation of opportunities for teammates is the best in the world. Then add Sturridge...

Ha ha ha ha ha, one of the biggest thing that turned Evertonians against Moyes was that we didn't go for it at Anfield, we went for it, only problem was too many injuries and a few knackered players. But we went for it. Now People praising Moyes for what Every one hated Moyes for. Sometimes I think we deserve what we get with these sort of people.

We were 1 point behind them before yesterdays game having drawn our last 3 games and finished a point ahead of them last year.

The gulf in quality is as close as it's ever been, really. They're good don't get me wrong, but they're not so good we shouldn't be taking points off them.

We just weren't fit enough.

Agree with most of what you are saying but the closest in terms of quality both teams have been recently is surely under Dalglish second time round? The current Liverpool forward line is a lot better than ours sadly.

He'll be experimenting in the summer, guaranteed. This feller will be going three at the back when he has the right personnel in and he has time to iron it out with them in a less hostile environment than the PL.

He can do one, Moyes wouldn't have let us get so badly hammered. Martinez was a fool last night, his tactics did not work, and he stuck with them and landed us with the worse defeats by them in 32 years.

The other negative for the night was now the rest of the league know how to stuff us, I'm fully expecting 2/3 more of these hammerings this season.

Forza Bobby? Nah you're OK.

That would be Moyes who allowed us to be regularly ripped apart at the Emirates by the Arse....and didn't they smash us 6-1 at home first game of the season a few years ago?

Hopefully, it certainly pays to have more than one option when it comes to tactics.

Just so you know, it's threads like this that make moderating a bit harder in that after a loss like that (and to whom we lost), supporters are understandably fuming.

When you're fuming, sometimes you say something that you didn't want to say or it didn't come out the way you wanted it to.

I get DeanDixie is upset (as is everyone) but I choose to look at RM's body of work with us this year rather than one result as tough as that one result was.

Ah yes but theres a line of thinking that you should never judge people at their best, you should always judge them at their worst.

Or is that just me?

Anyway, I said from day 1 I would judge him over the course of the Season, the first 3 games made me waiver a little, but since the Chelsea game ive been onboard, 1 result isnt gonna change that, for me anyway.

Same here.

One bad result/game doesn't make a good manager/player awful.

Shout that goat, Berto should be gritting his teeth now, and saying that will never happen again

This. You can look at this one of two ways. We could have bottled it and sat back and hung on at 1-0 or 2-0, but we kept at it and went for it. It burned us in the end. We had half a squad (the squad depth was highlighted, but that is a different discussion) and had a go at it. Heck, at half we could have sat back and packed it in and clung to 3-0, but we had the dignity to keep fighting for every yard. I personally would rather see us lose 5-0 scrapping for everything and still having a go than go out with a whimper at 3-0.

Yes, the result is bad. But I like our mindset. Last year at Anfield Moyes parked the bus and we drew one of the most listless derbys yet. At least under Martinez we had a go, and next year with a full squad and Martinez's mentality, we could bag the three points. Until yesterday it was "Martinez is so refreshing, we are going to the Emirates and OT and taking it to them where Moyes would have bottled it up" and now it's "Martinez is an abomination for going to Anfield and not bottling it up, Moyes would have had us lose 1-0."
