I’m in the north east. Everyone I know who voted Conservative did so because they promised a quick Brexit. This Brexit was entirely about immigration and absolutely non of the nuances that a Telegrapgh reader was interested in.

By immigration they, to a person, meant fewer foreigners in their local community

Sounds like racism to me

Worked in Blyth and Ashington a fair bit. Pretty much corroborates my experiences as well.

So if they vote Labour next time will they still be racists ?…….

hahaha fed the brexit point and ignores it. but but but 'whatabout' labour though....

How could this stinking government do this to our beloved monarch. And party the night away.

I see the polls but honestly would be surprised to see many of the voters there going back to Labour. These are old industrial towns that have been allowed to rot. Think many seats in the ‘red wall’ will go back to labour but not by the huge majorities they used to have and will probably be swing constituencies for a generation.

It all depends on what Labour do with this next vote. If they actually make things better for people across the country in a real way (ie: reforming the entire system rather than using sticking plasters like tax credits) then I think an awful lot of places will stay red and the Tories will probably descend into a civil war between the fantasists and the realists.

If however they faff about and do what Blair did, in much less favourable times, then they will probably fail and then God knows what will happen.

it's not looking good for them at the moment.

For many towns and cities in the country, I dunno what can be done to regenerate. For towns that only existed cos of mining etc, they may as well have just been abandoned like the ghost towns in the US. Can’t imagine that Brexit will help in attracting investment either.

Wrexham is a good example of what the Labour "red wall" problem is, because so much of the damage that the Labour council did to the town is still so obvious that no-one would vote for them on local issues alone. The same phenomenon can be found across the UK, including down here in London where there are councils (hi, Lambeth!) who are as bad.

Until the quality of local government improves, Labour will never be on any kind of secure footing.

Eddie: Now that is Welsh money.

Richie: They don't have any Welsh money.

Spudgun: No wonder they all vote Labor.

How things have changed since that episode of Bottom!.

To a lot of the older generation of Tory voters who cannot see past the end of their nose, it really would not matter if Labour could actually make things better, make their lives better, make the lives of their family better. It's more important to vote for a poorer life for the workers, the unemployed, the disabled, immigrants.

Indeed, 'spite' is rampant, the 'I'm alright jacks' that survived thatchers cull only see inflicting the same or worse as even handed. Always the first to cry foul as well, 'but but but corbyn though..."
