Indeed, 'spite' is rampant, the 'I'm alright jacks' that survived thatchers cull only see inflicting the same or worse as even handed. Always the first to cry foul as well, 'but but but corbyn though..."
Quite common for those who have done well to believe it was all down to them and for those who haven't done well to believe it's all down to someone else. Obviously, the reality is somewhere in the middle.

Well, he's still waffling to nurses on the bbc, they're not doing so well. Get the idea that if they can make it to spring and curb inflation by a point or two then they'll be in with the 'I told you so's', 'we couldn't afford the pay increases that we found for legal for you, and we were right not to as with inflation falling our offer was and is very generous, all these strikes have been for nothing, accept the deal and lets heal the country....'

Now he's waffling integrity over zahawi, who fudged his tax 4 months ago, and threatened many if they were to expose him, now the cats out of the bag and he's had the boot. What about the four months? Who else is taking the pish and it's being kept under wraps? Who else is throwing round the bullying and intimidation to keep their skeletons hidden? This not even ten year tory is a stooge, and still hasn't coughed up a plan to reshape the economy and deal with the energy crisis. (There's no point crying come November this year again and cutting cheques to cover the lack of planning!)

To add to this, it does appear rather that to 'have done well' relies on being a part of a certain club. I wonder how nick hancocks local publican voted before he weedled his covid ppe contract out of the ether. For instance. Has he been combed over to make sure no cash found its way back to the king of the jungle btw?

To a lot of the older generation of Tory voters who cannot see past the end of their nose, it really would not matter if Labour could actually make things better, make their lives better, make the lives of their family better. It's more important to vote for a poorer life for the workers, the unemployed, the disabled, immigrants.

Do you actually believe the rubbish you type. Why would anyone wish to see others have a poorer life ?……..

Pick any of the following...

1. The hate of minorities is stronger than your compassion for people know they do not know.
2. Sense of entitlement.
3. Scared of progression in society.
4. Scared of new cultures/different cultures/an ever-changing culture.
5. Many men become cantankerous in old age.
6. Feeling hard done by and beating down others around you.
7. They have always voted Tory and Labour are the evil enemy.
8. Selfishness.

I think I read somewhere that you're 73? You really should know yourself and make allowances. I dunno, maybe in 35 years, I'll be the same but I have read many of your posts in this thread and others and all you have done is compound my view.

I'm resentful and envious of the older generation - but at least I know myself.

No I’m not 73, a few years younger but soon there. There is no need for you to be resentful or envious because you have the same opportunities in a country crying out for workers. Older people tend not to have entitlement for anything they haven’t already worked for, just the view that having worked for 45-50 years they be allowed to enjoy whatever few years they have left. In terms of other cultures, people like myself who have worked all around the planet just take people they meet as they come. Personally I have no problem with immigration, just not illegal immigration. I don’t know anyone who feels hard done by or would even dream of beating down others. The other comments you raise I think are in your mind and you just associate with anyone who has voted Tory. You really should give people a bit of leeway, you may find out that actually they are quite nice…

But we don't have the same opportunities Pete. I earn just over the double the wage national average and I absolutely no chance in purchasing the type of home I lived in growing up (on my father's single wage, by the way). If I have no chance, what chance do the 80% of the workforce who earn less than me have? At least I can buy something, many can't afford even that. And in my mind, if that is a basic human right...you work full-time and have saved a deposit...you should be able to buy a property.

I'm 36 and it's more than likely that only reason I'll be able to retire is because of inheritance - this isn't right, Pete and it's only getting worse. The people stuck renting all their lives are going to die on their feet.

My mother bought a house for £90K in 2001 as a single mother. Twenty years later, she earns £1500 per month renting it out and that's her retirement money.

So I do get resentful when I see the older generation so dismissive of modern day problems and worse still actively vote for it to remain this way.

I do appreciate what you say and you are right. The problem is that I don’t see any political party looking to address the issue you raise above, but I feel that no one who votes does so for the purpose of keeping people down, even if that’s how it seems to those affected. I’m sort of lost for words now, because I can’t really see an answer other than government and lender assistance for the first time buyers.……

Thanks for this btw, a great post….

I'd have hammered it on it's plea for 'leeway', like it's cup runneth over with it. And may I add that there appears an attitude from the alright jacks to actively seek and accentuate worsening conditions for workers and to see more harm done punitively by making strikes illegal and thus the worker liable and their pension sacrificed. For instance.
That's a battle on the horizon, the deepening pension black hole. It'll dwarf the rover fiasco, the miners robbery, green's woolworths plundering, and maxwell's beano. That's another fight for another day.
piece of cake anyone...

I'm getting many vibes of John Major from the mid-90s about Sunak. Hopefully it has the same result at the next general election.

Major was a far better politician than any of his contemporaries or successors, and in many areas (not the railway) he actually achieved a lot. Sunak could do a lot worse.

There isn't a pensions black hole as there isn't a pension fund that needs to be contributed to. Pensions are paid for out of general taxation so pensions will just consume more of the general government spending.
