Seems almost certain to me that Russia will invade any day now. Putin seems to be spoiling for it, and now Sochi is out of the way...

Very, very sad state of affairs.

The events in Simferopol might suggest Russia has already made it's first move.....

And all their military assets in Sochi means they're in exactly the right spot, just across the Kerch Straight from Crimea. Talk about a timely coincidence.

We reap what we sow, unfortunately it looks like it could cost Western Ukraine big time.

America totally reneged on assurances given to Russia upon the reunification of Germany that there would be no further NATO expansion on the Russian doorstep. Military activity has furthered that resentment towards the West inside Russia. What would America do if Russia was to begin training Mexican troops? As Patrick Buchanan stated in 'A Republic, Not an Empire' America should have assisted Russia, not rub its nose in it. We're now at a crossroads, totally of America's making, where she faces a dilemma - is the loss of Ukraine worth risking confrontation with the second most dangerous country in the World?

Cheers, mate. She's been up in Moscow working on the Olympics, so she's fine. She actually flew back down to Kyiv today and I've just spoken with her.....

Having been posted there for the past 4 years - and with my other half still serving out there - it's a place close to my heart. There's obviously a shed load of rumour/counter-rumour, and claim/counter-claim. But all I'll day is that this isn't likely over yet.

Ironically there is a programme on BBC 2 right now where someone is quoted as using exactly this argument, in the summer of 1914.
