Greece are bankrupt. Need money from outside (other countries) as they're not seen by institutions as a reliable investment (there countries credit rating has been reduced to reflect this).

More outgoings than incomings. High levels of debt.

Therefore no money means they're screwed.

That's funny. I'd use us (Bulgaria) in the place of Greece then, as to be honest a lot of Bulgarians (including family of mine) work there cause of better payment and whatnot. But you could be right, I'm no economics expert or nothing. :)

You're very right. West Ham are still Premier League (like Greece being a EU member)... then benefit from the single EU currency...

However, they're in the process of taking a serious hit. Greece's credit rating declining (so can't reorder its own economy) and West Ham may be relegated altogther!

Other EU countries are not happy about it and they may be in breach of treaty.

West Ham were at risk of going into administration and still may if they get relegated due to reduced revenues.

However their standard of living, and reflection of public spending will be reducing over the next couple of years to more like Bulgaria....

as a result as money is used to pay back foreign creditors and leaves the Greek economy altogether.

West Ham won't be able to invest in their playing staff and have greater difficulty keeping hold of playing staff and their competitiveness will decline. They'll be more like a Championship club as a result as they'll be forced to sell off players to pay off debts.

Abit like Greece having to sell off profitable assets to repay debts in timely fashion.

Understood, thanks for the explanation mate! (y)

Hi Guys, It is good to be back on your forum, thanks for putting up with me.

Well what can I say what a difference a year makes. Last year we were playing great football & winning games this year it is just awfull.

I feel for Zola. He could not bring in any of his chosen transfer targets in the summer & had to sell Collins to Villa. Ashton has to retire & the muppets take over in January with their media circus.

The players with the exception of Parker & Green have let him down badly with Upson being the worse of them all.

I will leave it there for now as I do not want to make you feel suicidal. Does anybody have the Samaritans number?

Always had a soft spot for West Ham - except , Elland Road , 1980 - even though I used to live on the Tustin Estate , right next to The Den .
Hope you get out of it , lad . Doubt it , but I hope so .
( Uny , if you do , and you get to mid-table again , can you ask your fellow Irons to refrain from saying West Ham is as big a club as Everton - it happened , pre-cup final v the murderers - ??? )
Boleyn ground one of me fav' aways .
If not me fav' .

Good luck to ya' .

Hopefully Sunday will be your last defeat of the season. Feel sorry for you being so close to the drop. Always liked west Ham myself and been there a few times with my mates. Tbh though, can't really see where you could get the required points from.

One of my mates supports the Hammers and visits them 3-4 times a year. Has been to your game with Stoke on Saturday and was very downhearted about your chances to stay up.

I think and hope Wst Ham will stay up, they play some lovely expansive stuff, i cant help but think Zola is paying the price for mistakes past - i actually rate him as a really good coach and if he survives im sure he will prove this. Ill always back quality and when you look at squads down there on paper you would have to say you expect West Ham to get out it. I think though the vultures are circleing - Cole, Upson, Green and a few others may be looking to next year and possible moves.

The club arent doing themselves any favours either with the new owners verbals, but Zola was as bad saying he was considering his future on Sat, it draws pressure and attention on the team and suddenly the club becomes crisis ridden! The media are bad enough without any help.

West Ham have been very unlucky all season, there are worse teams above them. IMO.

Like many others I too have a soft corner for west ham. That's a place one of my aunt lives and a cousin of mine is a west ham supporter is.

What I love about west ham is that they despite all their problems play some good, attractive football. They have very good players in the likes of Parker who has been in the form of his life, Diamanti looks class all ends, C.Cole a wc contendar, green also a wc member, upson who has been poor but has all the experience.

The defense must be a worry for you. How easily, fuller got past Tomkins that other day, I couldn't believe it

Upson not playing so well at the moment, is he trying for the exit?
Upson's performances have probably been the worst of them all. Word has it he asked for a transfer in January & was turned down. He has another season left on his contract & the club have tried since the start of the season to negiotate a new / extended contract but he says that he wants to concentrate on the world cup. The way he has been playing for the past few months he should not be in the squad.[

I have heard West Ham compared to a number of things over the years but a EU country is a new one. It amazes me how & on what basis people come to their conclusions about subject they know very little about. It must be based on the 'Sun' newspaper. Yes we are in a mess on & off the pitch due to a number of reasons & yes Sullivan & Gold may have brought into the club which helps us financially but they only brought 50 per cent of the club and the media circus they have started is an embarrasement.

I feel for you and your club...always regarded you as a proper club with proper fans, and I'm cringing now watching you go down the swanee with those 2 clowns at the helm...

You deserve better...hope you can get yourselves out of this mess

Hang on a second. With debts the size of yours? What did you expect?

Media circus - as opposed to what could be happening and WAS GOING TO HAPPEN if they hadn't have bought into the club? You'd be in administration like Portsmouth!

They're covering your debts.

I don't read the fcking Sun.

If you knew anything about Merseyside you'd probably know that. Its amazing people can base their conclusions on a subject they know nothing about.

With debts the size of West Ham. Everyone knows whats going on.

And you are like Greece. They spent spent spent. More money than they had even in the "boom years". The similarities are very appropriate.

Sounds very much like our "L" episode.

I admire Zola and always had a soft spot for the Hammers ever since ol' Alf Garner followed them in the sixties.

The money situation for most clubs will be a tricky situation for the next few years and I can't see much inflow of talent for the big names for either of our clubs. I'm afraid the Hammers have to come good in a short period to stay afloat in the Prem. It's possible but the Wolves game didn't do you guys any favours it looks like confidence is waning.
