Republic of Ireland Thread.

Gutted, Ireland being in world cups are some of my fondest childhood memories, I was 8 in 1990 and it was just the best time. Theres no other sport that comes anywhere close to when Ireland are in the WC.

Disappointed by the result is an understatement but O'Brien played the full game and it appears that he wasn't injured and Coleman got a good run out too. So a small win.

Seamus starting for us next game now?
Starting him will mean Moyes won`t be able to play O`Brien out of position while having two right backs sat on the bench. Of course to he could play Coleman at LB and still be able to put O`Brien on the right so he could play both out of position and make some heads explode on here, including mine.

a loss to Denmark would’ve been tough but at least there would have been something riding on it for 90 mins

Ah well, will enjoy a few days in Dublin nonetheless but seems a bit of a pointless jaunt now

Very disappointed today...we played well for most part just a couple of silly mistakes especially first one for there penalty when we 2 up

Séamus played 96 minutes including 6 of ET and not counting added time in the 90...if you follow!!

RTE ratings

Seamus Coleman 8

Stalwart. Defensively faultless and drove forward in attack. Rescued Ireland when he darted in front of Schick to intercept a low cross and win a free.

Perhaps his only bad moment in the first half was when he failed to control a long diagonal in the corner but it was asking a lot of the man.

Played the full 90 minutes and was still at the coalface in the early part of extra time until he could give no more.

Jake O'Brien 7

Part of a sterling defensive effort even if not quite as eye-catching and dominant as the other two centre-halves.

His throw-ins aren't quite Delap-ian in their trajectory but have enough heft on them to cause trouble.

Prone to an all-too obvious push when contesting in the air. This yielded a dangerous free-kick inside the halfway line.
