The overall campaign was positive, because it was rescued from an absolute car crash by Parrott. But that tonight was massively unnecessary. Normally we have no complaints because we get eliminated by superior opposition. But that Czech side is...appalling. We beat ourselves, and deep down most of us know it. Plenty of guts on show to get to within an ass's roar of a final, but we didn't have the mentality to cross the winning line tonight.

It was a moment of madness that changed it but we did very well overall. I didn’t like your ‘Irish love a sob story’ comment as I thought overly negative. Delaney set Irish football back years but I think that team tonight show we are progressing.

I didn't expect us to win, no.

I was thrilled with how we went two up and immediately appalled at that gormless penalty concession. Anyone watching Ireland as long as I have been knew what was about to unfold. I bet you did too.

We've had enough sob stories. That match was left behind tonight as early as the 27th minute. A slow motion car crash. And penalties are most certainly not a lottery. That's why the Germans win so many. They practice. It's why England now wins penalty shoot outs. They practice and mitigate the special tensions of the test of nerve and technique. Us? We were found out and found a way to lose. Harsh, but true. Top level sport.

I suppose the only consolation is they went farther than we should have expected them to - and there are plenty of gutsy players there. But that was left behind us and no mistake.
