Reports: Rooney to leave Everton

Pickford and Keane constantly hoof it every chance they get.

Yes, to play hoofball successfully we would need a big target man up front, but there's zero doubt that is how we have been playing. You lose count how many times Tosun has to try and challenge for a ball in the air on his own.

I don't think there can be any question that we're continually playing the long ball, but we were also doing it under Koeman.

Pickford needs to take some purchase off his kicks. Don't think that's an Allardyce thing either, he has done it his whole career. It can be a weapon but usually its just giving possession away as it just goes out for a goal kick.

Keane is just an abomination.

It does eventually go long but its usually after some aimless passing and then it gets pinged up front because nobody bothers to make themselves available for the ball.

Picked us out of a few holes this season and for that we owe him a lot.

Slows our game down way too much though and would prefer someone with some legs in midfield, so probably time to go. Has looked increasingly suspect this season and his contribution has faded - not sure what else he offers us moving forwards.

Yeah agree, we have used him way to much, its no coincidence his best runs of form came at the beginning of the sseason and also just after unsworth rested him for 2/3 games

But... we all knew. Literally everyone, even if they hoped otherwise. Hell, we knew he would be in this condition at this age when he was 17.

I could vault myself on here from around 2012 saying Rooney will be back aged 32 with shot legs when he has little to nothing left. I could vault hundreds saying the same.
The vaults are only to be used whenever Lukaku controls a pass or puts a brace past Bournemouth.

I disagree mate.

If we're in our own half the instruction is to punt it out and up the field and try to win the header, which we never do, or the second ball, which we also never do.

If we win the ball back in midfield they're allowed to play with it but you rarely see us try and pass out of our own half when under pressure.

Going to MLS is going to leave a bad taste to end his career. He’s not got the legs for it on top of the travel requirements that will be draining. He’s going to be a worse version of what Pirlo was here which was pretty sad to see.

That said, it’s better for Everton if he goes.

I don't see that at all. I just see us messing about with the ball before pumping it up the pitch (if we have not lost it already).

Its not effective no matter which way we do it. I actually expected a more productive type of dire hoofball if that makes sense?

Give him credit. He's done ok this season.

He is also potentially going to earn the club a nice little bonus to make up for the fact we sold him far too cheap in the first place.
No he's not! We will have to literally give him away, and that's assuming somebody is thick enough to want to take him and can pay the greedy get the wages he'll demand.

My guess, he'll be here next season.

Two ways of thinking about this one.

1. He seen the writing on the wall and recognises he can't do it anymore.

2. He can see what an absolute shambles we are and wants out before it gets worse
.

Media will absolutely blow it up though. Hard to remember for most casual MLS viewers/Non-NYCFC supporters that Pirlo was gash here, because media made a meal out of the fact he was here to begin with.

Yeah, that’s fair. It’s going to be painful to watch though.

As a supporter of another MLS club, I favor it. I'm sure Rooney has something to offer DC (beyond branding), but it certainly looks like the future of MLS is moving away from big names in the twilight of their careers.

While I don't think it's the best move for his legacy, it's nice for Everton to make the break and still have a soft landing for Wayne.

Some of you are proper mad for wanting shut of our top goalscorer for the second year in a row.
