Reports: Rooney to leave Everton

Is it any coincidence that his best game was Unsy’s last? That all his goals came before we started playing hoofball? That BFS focused on defending not scoring? Heretical as may be, i’d Want him to stay for one last season k. Play him 50-60 minutes per game off Tosun and let the opposition worry about him. He won’t score from midfield.
Face it, barring a miracle next year is another transition year and we are not challenging the CL places. Maybe the year after if we get the right people on and off the field. Certainly not BFS!

Has the style of play changed all season? We were playing "hoofball" well before Allardyce came.

Most his goals came from penalties (or rebounded ones) and a once in a lifetime goal. His early goals were a bonus and certainly not something we should have been expecting every week due to his position on the pitch.

Well that must have been the most underwhelming season ever produced by a player who is the most expensively paid player in the history of our club, it was one for The older sentimental soppy fans, nostalgic easily offended millennials and clueless ket wigged youngsters that will still roll up to thank him for his efforts whilst wishing him a teary eyed farewell..... Again.

So pretty much everybody then

This would be fantastic. If we could move him, and somehow Bolasie and Schneiderlin, that would open up a lot of funds to bring in a much needed real CM. The wages alone could finance a small country...

But... we all knew. Literally everyone, even if they hoped otherwise. Hell, we knew he would be in this condition at this age when he was 17.

I could vault myself on here from around 2012 saying Rooney will be back aged 32 with shot legs when he has little to nothing left. I could vault hundreds saying the same.

I don't agree mate. There are loads who didn't want Rooney back I agree, but the vast majority of the posts were about stuff like kissing the badge. And yes, I think a lot of people, me included, were long of the opinion that he wouldn't be somebody who would play at the top level way into his 30s. And if you go back to last year I know I made a number of posts about concern over his injury record over the last couple of seasons at Man Utd. But it was only when he arrived here that we saw the extent of his decline. I mean nobody thought we were getting the world class Rooney of 5/6 years ago, but we thought he may have had a bigger impact than he did.

To say everybody knew he was finished is a bit farcical if I'm honest. But good for you for being proved right.

I have an idea

1. Kenright got Rooney in
2. Mosh never agreed with this idea
3. Mosh sacked Koeman
4. Mosh hired Sam
5. Mosh knew(?) he would get rid of Wayne!

Although I feel Rooney's contributions have faded over the course of the season and that Morgan Schneiderlin is ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment, it is worrying for me if we are selling our top goalscorer two seasons in a row.

Reasonable shout on the penalties, and it'd be interesting to see how many penalties we were awarded pre BFS and post. My gut feeling would be that if you don't attack you don't get penno's either.
As to the style of play I think that has changed dramatically though the quality was poor before and after BFS appointment.
Prior to BFS we were still trying to work things forward through midfield (esp. in Euro games) albeit slowly and unsuccessfully. We were losing the ball in transition and having it come back at the defense more frequently than they could support and driving up defensive errors. Post BFS hoofball bypassed the midfield who's only role became defensive and from there its at best a 50/50 aerial duel as to who gets possession. which once again pressurises the defense but they are now better able to cope in numbers as 2 of 3 midfielders are in front of the back four. coupled also with the key personnel returning from injury in the defense.
BTW i am no tactician but these would be my individual observations

See I think this hoofball thing (with us, not Allardyce in general) is a bit of a myth.

To play hoofball we would need a big target man up front (which we don't really have) or pace running beyond the last defender.

I don't think our first instinct is to just hammer the ball forward and funnily enough that may have proved more fruitful this season. We just seem to pass it around slowly and aimlessly before giving the ball away.

Don't get me wrong I think if Allardyce had the players we would be hoofing it but its just turgid aimless crap like it has been for the whole season as the players are generally thick.

Weirdly enough I think what we have seen this season under Allardyce is almost the opposite of what I would expect. No pressure being put on opponents, no playing percentages or whipping balls in to a big man, just lazy, pointless rubbish.
