I see yesterday brought out the blatant racists from their caves for a day.

The social media photo's of the woman walking past an injured person and using her phone apparently told some people "all they needed to know" about muslim people in general lol

She could have been letting her loved ones know she was safe, could have been calling an ambulance etc etc.....but no! she had a head scarf on and was not white skinned, so she apparently summed up muslim extremists everywhere.

No wonder some of them hate us!

The crux of the matter is that it's impossible to stop people committing atrocities like this, no matter what their faith, when they have no fear of death and actually embrace it.

That is the most dangerous person(s) that any security force can ever face.

How do you stop someone who wants to die ?
shoot them before they do anything?
win/win for both parties

The only way to stop it is for our governments to stop fanning the flames. Never likely in our lifetime.

The fact that the radicalised islamisation of our subjects who leave to join Isis should have their passports confiscated, and never allowed back as British subjects!
Passports taken away for good!

I think it's time we looked at how we deal with known terror suspects in this country. Between this, Lee Rigby's killers and the lad that had been in Gitmo that the government gave £1 million to blowing himself up recently it seems that the softly, softly approach just isn't working.

Of course, there are a multitude of other factors, the poverty inherent within our society isn't helping and is creating a breeding ground of disillusioned young men with nothing to live for.

History shows us though that internment doesn't work while Israel's hardline approach has created martyrs by the dozen and doesn't seem to have have prevented terrorist attacked .

Other than by dialogue, which seems unlikely in these circumstances The only countries that ever seem to have been really successful against terrorism have been dictatorships that slaughter entire communities and operate by fear and brutality . So I'm not sure what the options are to be honest .

I can only hope that the police and security services continue to do the frankly excellent job they've been doing. Of course this is horrific but it's isn't the first time this country has lived through terror attacks and I'd be appalled that their barbarity caused us to abandon the very things that make us better than them.

It's perhaps worth noting that for all the shock and awe in the media, London appears to be going about its business as usual. Indeed, I live 30 minutes walk from Westminster Bridge, and apart from the solitary helicopter flying above the area, you would literally have had no idea anything was going on.

Of course, I don't wish to diminish the impact this act had on the people caught up in it, for them it is undoubtedly terrible, but I hope we don't go overboard with knee jerk responses that blow it out of proportion.

I think there is only the media going overboard on this....

Exactly. There really isn't a quick fix so the only valid and usually successful option is the standard approach of a multi-faceted escalation.

Starts with the stopping of attacks through applying a deterrent before moving to infiltration, destabilisation, discussion and finally compromise.

I'm sorry mate, I always find your posts thought provoking, but these guys don't react like you or I. A liberal touchy-feely let's all be friends and explain the error of their ways will only ever result in their absolute belief that we are weak and can be overcome. When they believe or at least understand that that we will be far more resolute than they are then we can make progress. We had a PM who thought he could reason and discuss issues with the 3rd Reich, he was wrong, sometimes being harder than the opposition is what is required, and for that we need moral strength and courage......

That is not what I said, though. What I said was that we as a society needed to progress, in order to make them irrelevant. That means having a more open, less corrupt and generally better society because then the claims of the jihadis are vastly weakened as a result. It doesnt mean surrendering or tolerating their worldview.

What we emphatically do not need to do is to stage some kind of crackdown that has no other effect than to create a better class of jihadi - which is what the crackdowns in Syria, the crackdowns in coalition-occupied Iraq, arguably the crackdown in France and certainly the repeated crackdowns in Gaza have done.
