don't be daft. the posts here have to stay on-record.

this could've been an enlightening debate, but it's obviously too touchy a subject for most blues.

if 5 members say they want this thread locked, then i'll ask a mod to lock it. just write here "lock it"

Say if I take the worst evil looking, smelly ****e ever taken, do I take it out the pan and preserve it for the record ?

Obviously not and it's a completely similar situation with this poll.

like i said, for some of you it's too touchy a subject. bit like the other poll-debate we had on some of our dodgier chants.

Sorry yes to the match. I think as a foreigner your view of everton may be slightly tainted by the media, it's bad in this country so I would imagin even worse abroad. I think if you we're able to go regularly you would see how much this club means to people and that would answer your question. Trust me, if you were to do afew away games you will see a world of difference in how other clubs feel.

Who is your German team mate? A good mate of mine is a Dortmond season ticket holder. I met him when he was studying here and he came to afew games with us

You make a valid point, mate. If i was a local regular matchgoing scouse, i'd probably be touchy about issues like this too.

I don't have any other team. Everton since '89 cup final. I follow the national German team, tho'. But Everton vs Germany my heart would support Everton.

still, i've got no problem with locals taking issue with my pushing this topic (and other topics). i like debating things, don't mean any trolling or whatever some of yous might think.

am still happy to lock the thread if 5 of you want it so...

Don't be silly, lets you learn afew things about the club. I thought it was a wind up but I never knew your circumstances so I apologise. Out of interest why did you pick everton over liverpool in 89. Given we got beat

No problem, thanks anyway b)

I was visiting me Nana and the game was on. She's a massive Liverpool fan so I said to her i'm gonna support the blue team to make it interesting. obviously it stuck

We are a huge club, with a proud history, but under Kenwright we behave like a smalltime club.

For example, our pathetic hierarchy sickeningly promote a top half finish as 'punching above our weight'.

How can we be taken seriously with that?

Only 3 clubs have won more titles than us. In no way shape or form is this club 'punching above it's weight' by simply being in the top half.

This club has been punching BELOW it's weight ever since we won last won the title.

We are massive club with VERY small time people running us. Imo both Man City and Chelsea are small clubs and buying the premiership wa few times on't make any difference to that.

Why are there only categories for the size of a club: big and small?

If there are only two categories then anyone from Marine, Brentford etc are small, and anyone from say Championship level and above are big.

It really is a poor thread this.

Relative to the Premiership, obviously.

It really is a poor thread this.

I wish better threads that I start get more responses.

This thread about how we're one of the toppest teams in the history of English football barely made its second page before people lost interest:

http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/55410-125-years-of-the-Football-League-and-the-top-flight-which-team-comes-top

This thread musing about whether our reactive tactics are good or bad for us is still on the 1st page:

http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/55812-Discussion-does-our-meagre-status-demand-reactive-tactics

and this one about sharing videos of Everton's greatest goals only just made its 2nd page:

http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/55983-The-best-Everton-goals-ever!-%28with-video%29

But this crappy poor thread is on page 9.

At this rate I think i'll just leave the threadmaking to others.

I'd say we are small time especially on European fronts.

Don't see why you're all disagreeing.. we've won nothing since '95 and haven't played in the Champions League or had any major indication of being a big club.

Where is our monstrous kit deals? Sponsorship contracts? We've simply halted at 5-8th and we won't be changing anytime soon.

We're like a skint Atletico Madrid.

Yep.

That explains why the bookies believe there's more chance of us getting relegated next season than finishing top 4:

Ladbrokes: Everton to get relegated: 8/1 & Everton to finish top 4: 25/1

Ridiculous considering we've finished top 8 the last 6 seasons.

But if this is how others see us, then what chance have we got attracting the biggest names in the game? Who would want to come and play here or manage a team that has more chance of getting relegated than challenging for Champions League places?

We can call bollocks all we like (and it is bollocks), but that doesn't change the perception others have of us. We have to figure out a way to change that perception, so that we might attract bigger and better players, coaches and investment to our club.
