There's a very good reason for that: they're chronically understaffed with shift patterns designed in such a way to ensure coverage during peak and weekends.

If there's an incident at 9pm on a Monday night somewhere in Lancashire, the response team may come from as far as the Midlands - or even Gloucestershire.

At certain times of the day, there's likely to be two cops covering the whole of Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales. Yup, two.

So if I want to commit a crime, best time would be Monday on a train, at 9PM in Lancashire?

no, you'll just get the local bizzies come and get you instead (and then you'll spend longer in custody whilst they wait for BTP to come and deal with you)

Heads up for anybody thinking of travelling the strike week
Northernrail are advising there will be no trains for the week once it starts.
Not just the days of the strike .
Merseyrail will not be affected as they are not in dispute.
They have just got a 7.5 % offer and look like taking it.

And that's why people go on strike. Every large company now see's pay negotiations as an opportunity to attack terms and conditions rather than actual pay negotiations.

Make a decent offer, that doesn't even need to meet the cost of living raise, and you seemingly avert strike action.

TBF a legal commitment to no cuts-inspired sackings and no changing of existing terms and conditions would probably do that. Rail workers know where the money for a big rise would come from (passengers).

This government urgently needs to sort the mess of the rail industry out.

The government , wouldn't sit down and talk to the union about a pay rise, unless it had conditions attached to it .
Two years the union has been trying to get around the table.
The union have also said they would look at modernization of roles as long as there were not any compulsory redundancy .
Still not good enough.
Think they have been slow getting that message out there.
The RMT is going to recommend the deal is accepted on merseyrail, was talking to one of there union lads last week.
The network rail lads being out could still affect services over there though, the likes of hunts Cross signal box will be manned by network rail staff I think?
Could be wrong.

Johnson is always struggling for words., he's barely literate at the best of times mate. lol

He destroyed Starmer at PMQ’s. Starmer had a script, didn’t listen to Boris, then moved to his next scripted question having expected a different answer and made himself look stupid. Starmer cannot think on his feet, he’d be better reading the news on BBC…..

Unions aren't allowed to get the message out there. The only time they'll get 10 seconds on the news is if a spokesperson with a heavy regional accent says something stupid or trips over their words.

Dedicating a full minute to an explanation of the particulars of any attached strings simply isn't going to be allowed in the British media. Not when they can have a solid 5 of paid for MP's spouting cliches and desperate commuters.

He didn't Pete, bojo just repeated the same question about 3 times.
Starmer who i am not fussed on got the better of that exchange.
