I saw this earlier. Could someone not colour blind tell me which line is which?

It's astonishing how quickly Tories and their cronies went from hailing essential workers as heroes during the peak of the pandemic to demonising them as ungrateful shirkers out to ruin Christmas.

Depends. Any that are already overpaid, get shut, any that are underpaid and you really want to keep pay more…..

On what grounds are you sacking them? It's their legal right.

You also cant conduct negotiations on collective bargaining on that basis.

If you want to understand why no resolution is being found from this government, I'd urge everyone to use the above as exhibit A

Russia plans to bomb the U.K. on the day the RAF have a one day walk out….trust me if the supermarkets and pubs and restaurants closed tomorrow the howls of protest on here would be deafening…..

“The howls of protest” are totally irrelevant as to whether something is morally justifiable or not.

A nurse starting out will earn about £3 an hour more than somebody working in Tesco on the tills, after three years of degree study and 1000 hours of UNPAID work. Personally, I don’t think that’s appropriate and it is borne out in the number of NHS vacancies. People simply do not want to sign up to the current pay and conditions on offer.

Strikes were instrumental in achieving minimum wage, maternity leave, improved paid time off rights etc. I suppose you’d be happy for employees not to have these rights as you’re in favour of getting rid of strike action ?

Was minimum wage or maternity rights gained through strikes….

2300 hours of unpaid work, and that is what it is, work. Cause you ain't being a student most of the time. Your a HCA/support worker who might squeeze in a few minutes of learning a day. You learn when you qualify, and you better do it quickly. Like within a few weeks, before you get left alone. Plus you still have to pay for parking. On top of this, if you have kids. Forget about seeing them in school holidays. Uni loves to send students out on placement over school holiday periods. Must be because nursing schoolsl ove their holidays,.so let's send everyone out and say they can't see there kids for 3 years during term breaks
Hats off to NHS students. I don't know how the older students with kids and responsibilities manage it. I certainly would never train to be a nurse now, under these conditions.

My wife’s first Christmas after qualifying, she did Christmas Day on a cardiology ward, her and a sister with one HCA looking after 34 patients.

£27k a year to do that, with tens of thousands in student debt on top. I honestly think you’d have to be mental to commit to that now.

I see the railways are on strike for another 5 days. Will this inconvenience anyone on here? I’ve not even heard it mentioned in the pub tbh……

Tbh it's going to this week, I have been in full support up till now but it's starting to become a massive pain for me recently and this week i have had to cancel a couple of things.

Have the government engaged with the unions yet over pay, or are they still holding out awaiting for the public to turn?

I don't think it's too far off before public support will diminish.
This.

The railways are cutting their own throats. Post-covid they've already lost a significant portion of their previously reliable (captive) commuter passengers so their revenue streams must have been diminished. By failing to offer a reliable service to the remaining customer base they're surely just making themselves financially unsustainable. People will just give up on train travel entirely.

What's the alternative? Accept the pay demands, pass those onto consumers, who then vote with their wallets and decide the huge fares are not worth it. It's perhaps worth noting that the CEO of Network Rail painted a very different picture of the negotiations than those presented by the unions. His version of the story was that the unions were deliberately shielding details of the proposed reforms to ensure continued support for the strikes. It's all a complete mess, and as I have said previously, it's hard to fathom how this is in anyway a good working relationship even if these negotiations are concluded. The two parties are clearly not working well together.
