It might also be worth appreciating why this was brought in. It was designed to offset drops in income

LSE analysed the self-employed during Covid (https://cep.lse.ac.uk/_NEW/PUBLICATIONS/abstract.asp?index=8650) and half of those surveyed had income lower than £1,000 a month, with 40% saying they had less work than normal. Those folk would not be entitled to furlough or any kind of unemployment support, so are uniquely vulnerable in that sense, which is precisely why the income support scheme was introduced.
Benifits for people who would choke on there latte ,
if you said they were on the dole in all but name.

6% on season tickets - day travel may be over ten %
Ps mate those are for the fares the government contol.
The companies can put fares up or down , for there own fares.
They are not covered by todays announcement.
Local offers , travel cards ect that run in a specific area or on there own service only
Like northernrail duo ect.
A lot of them are run in with the local councils travel departments.
They are getting hammerd as we all know do wouldn't expect any relief from that direction.

Don’t forget the absolutely atrocious living conditions which some personnel in service accommodation have been reporting.

108 of us covered the NW Ambo Service. 90% of them were lads and girls who have been in the military less than 3 years, will be on £24k max.

I don’t blame NWAS or the border force, I blame the people who are responsible for the last 12 years of public service decline, who are now trying to put the blame on the workers.

The barracks weren't exactly comfortable in the raf, when we were at army bases for exercises or training it felt like going back to the Ritz afterwards.

I suppose the thing with armed forces pay is that everything is done for you and taken from your pay. Accommodation is fairly negligible as I recall, the biggest cost was for mess fees for food which was a couple hundred I think?

Apart from any bills you create yourself there is nothing else to pay. We all lived like drunken kings for a week, maybe two and after spending literally every penny we had you never had to worry about rent, bills or food just eating in the mess every meal and sneaking fruit and sandwiches in our pockets because it's an offence to take food out of the mess and there's always a jobsworth who'd like to pull you up over an apple.

Trouble is that as many have found I left the forces with literally no idea how to pay bills, how council tax works, how to budget. I can't blame the forces completely obviously but there's a complete culture change when you leave. I was only in just under 5 years and didn't have any social problems readjusting however like prison, it's a similar it's a different world with structure, rules and regs. I can very easily see how someone doing the full 22 could feel completely isolated and uncertain about life in civvy street, there was no support offered when I left, I hope this is something that has been rectified these days.

I was at an Army barracks last week and the room I stayed in was one of the worst I’ve stayed at in my 22 years in the RAF. The digs when I’ve been on Ops were in much better order.

You pay for your own food now and i’d guess the base you stayed at before you left, the rooms will be in the exact same condition now. However, the MOD are spending billions on new capabilities, whilst lads don’t have heating or hot water; it’s backwards.

The support for leaving is better, that’s down to people who have left previously having less support now providing support to others in the same boat. LinkedIn has been a brilliant tool to help me during resettlement.

The good thing about the military is the opportunities to develop and the pension, it’ll become harder to retain people past pension age in future, as that’s one of the main reasons people stay in now. It wouldn’t surprise me if they end up freezing military pay for another couple of years at least.

Should stop giving money to Brussels and take care of our own, oh.
Should stop giving more money to people whose standard of living is dropping by the year because there's people worse off.

Peon squabbles while they ruling class live like kings are tedious.
Should stop working thereby cause even further hardship to those covering for us who are worse off because there are others better off.....Whilst at the same time expect the whole country to support our actions.

That's pretty poor pay and conditions, personally I'd back a campaign to improve it.

It's not about being more or less equal mate. Difference for nurses is they have a loud union.

It rubbish conditions for somebody to be expected to be sent into any situation at a minutes notice.
They are being asked to do it more and more by this government.
Should have there pay increased in line with those whose jobs they are covering.
While doing the job.
It dosnt undermine the case for health or another works reasons for striking.

They're not allowed to unionise either...

Might have something to do with it.

Well maybe they shouldnt break the strikes and drive down wages for everyone? Just an idea like.

I'd rather have a qualified nurse of ambulance driver doing the job, than some unqualified squaddie who doesnt have the skills to do it.

They are skilled professions. They keep us all alive. They do an essential job. The squaddies should think about that a bit.
