Current Affairs Rail strikes

There was a four year battle with the train companies, that got settled last year.
Over driver only trains
By the government putting that back on the table , they have shown there hand ,they want us out.
The rail companies are losing nothing for there shareholders, the government is paying for any and all losses.
In fact they are made up as they are not getting fined for cancelling traind ect on those days.
It's a political attack on working people, they want us all on part time contracts and flexible hours.
A director was around today , staff asked him for some information, he said I honestly don't know, nobody does because every time we try and get on with a deal the government pulls something else out of the hat.
The train companies are as much in the dark as the rest of us as to where this is going.

Like I said, havnt really got a dog in the fight. But, to my untrained eye, train drivers aint exactly low paid. Guards, station staff etc etc, not a clue.

They are not badly paid,
But they are not the ones striking over the current period.
They just want a pay rise.
We want a job worth having.
Honestly most would leave given a decent pay off, say £25,000
The strikes everyone goes on about is RMT .
Not Aslef. The train drivers.
There is a constant in and out off drivers in the rail.
I know Northernrail can't keep hold of drivers.
The money is good but as with a lot of things it isn't always as easy as it looks from the outside.
My nephew is one and is about 40 going to leave in 2 years as the shifts are becoming to much.
Last week he finished 1.30 am Friday, night, was back in 4.30 am Sunday morning.
For instance, just come to the conclusion that it's not worth having the money and having no life.

You can see how easy it is to hurd the Tory vote into frenzy, lost count of the morbidly stupid Tory believe it's train drivers on strike and conveniently forgetting it's the many support services that enables trains to be driven safely that are actually on strike. Now border force strikes upcoming now too. That'll confuse the morbidly stupidb tory who both want to demonise strikers whilst insisting on strong UK borders. Be interesting to see the different logic they use to condemn different striking industries.

There is a common denominator in all this , and its the government.
They have created the environment that has caused all this to happen.
What soft arse Truss did in costing the country in a month in power alone would pay most of the pay deals ten times over.
They moan about the cost of rail strikes , but fail to say that they pay the rail companies anyway and its thier interface that is costing the economy.
Scotland, Wales, Merseyside, all deals with modernization done and dusted, with deals from the nasty union barons and the rail companies. .
All not directly funded from Westminster .
Wonder why that is.
We are a political football for the government it's not just a normal pay deal situation, they want to crush the concept once and for all that a working man/woman deserves a fair deal in return for there labour.
While they shout about freedom in other countries they thing nothing of taking ares away the scum.

Striking over Christmas when people are trying to be with loved ones is snide behaviour.

Weird this, you would thought they would try and vary the Tory bots narrative.

Well let's back off,
like we did for remembrance Sunday, liz's funeral ect, stopped the strikes.
The thanks , they come back with even worse terms on the table and threw it in are faces .
They are to blame nobody else.

Don’t be too harsh on him mate. He’s worried about people”s dividends after all.

Do you think the government is being snide, withdrawing offers, not negotiating in good faith etc?

And when is a good time to call action? From memory the employees called of action around the Quens funeral, and Remembrance and they got no thanks.

I say this as someone who relies on the trains at Christmas. It is frustrating, but to me the blame is with the government who seem to be intent on provoking this confrontation because they want to LARP 1985 all over again.

Or it could be that its rail staff, train drivers, nurses, university workers, cleaners, ambulances drivers are all in the wrong and they are in the right. (This is of course on top of all the enemies of growth Braveman outlined, so eco protestors, Labour and Lib Dem voters, remain supporters, pepple at university, public sector workers etc).

Eventually you realise they all have a common denominator.

We're due to visit the in-laws for Christmas, and with both train staff and border control striking on the day of our flight it's pretty uncertain. But yeah, dividends. What a shitty country we've become that is all looking out for yourself and stuff anyone else.

I'm not party to the negotiations so I have no idea who is to blame or not (incidentally, my wife and many of her colleagues are actually coming to oppose the strikes because of the rhetoric from the nurses union, none of which will actually get to the heart of the problem, which is a lack of staff, not how much they're paid). My point is that the unions always want to punish customers in the hope that the employer cares more about annoyed customers than they do. It's not right. None of this is the customer/end users fault, and yet they suffer all the time, and they'll suffer from the higher pay that will inevitably result from this because the costs will be passed on through higher ticket prices (that are already the highest in Europe).
