Avanti are absolute scum of a company.

They're trying to increase profits by blaming their staff for cancellations / no over time.

I have to use them a lot sadly, we used to think virgin were bad but instead we've been given the worse of two evils.

I've had a refund issued which was never received - they're claiming it was sent so now I've had to send my statements over for Bank Account and Credit Card - pure making it difficult to receive an entitled refund.

Feels like things have gotten significantly worse since they took over. Covid probably a contributing factor /excuse but the service has been slashed. No longer any direct trains from Chester /N Wales to London.

Been down to London a few times in the past couple of months and the train I booked ceased to exist. Actually worked out better for me, as it allowed me to pick and chose trains on the day. But still, it's not a great sign. So bloody expensive too. I've started to go on the West Midlands train from Crewe. Far cheaper but an extra 40/60 mins.

I have to go down every week and the sheer number of times they get cancelled due to "staff shortages" is outrageous, as Lime St is a terminal, the train will just be sitting there for an hour.

And to make it worse, they make sure the next train get's there in less than an hour so you don't get the full refund even if they've ruined your day.

Also, if you're stranded (I was at Watford once for 3 hours!) they leave you, I believe virgin would put on coaches or taxis to help you out.

I know engineering works etc are usually completed on Sunday however I do feel there should be a full 7 day service and if that requires a shift to 7 day working that should be a prerequisite for any negotiations.

In this day and age reduced services on Sundays should not be happening and would take pressure off the roads with weekend travellers.

Definitely some of the unintended consequences of this are behavioural change for some. I'm having to sell some gig tickets for next Friday, not buy a ticket for the Brighton game and I'm off to 3 smaller gigs in Jan and Feb that are wholly reliant on there not being train strikes those days. If a certain amount of those get disrupted I'll just stop bothering booking things in advance. I only got those as they're bigger bands in smaller venues (Circa Waves at the Cavern for example) and I know I'll be able to shift them if I need to.

Wonder how many are in the same position? Knock on effects on other struggling parts of the economy, not to mention hospitality in that traditionally busy week next week being disrupted for the 3rd year in a row. Country is a complete mess

I've got a work trip to do next week that I suspect will be touch and go because of the strike action. Never mind though, the hugely expensive rail tickets are down to company profiteering and certainly not due to the rail unions holding the country hostage

Majority of tbe staff on strike already work 3 out of 4 Sundays a month,
Drivers don't as a rule but even some of those do.
