I'd say rail workers have done pretty well out of it.

Speaking as a former LDC rep. for the RMT I would agree. I don't really follow any media coverage of this, because I live a thousand miles away, but it still beggars belief that Tories will roll out the "what about...?" nonsense.

It's like cold-calling, it must work, because why else do it. But, it seems incredible that anyone falls for it.

Aye, I'm in Prague at the moment too so am not really consuming any British media.

Solidarity with the rail workers.

I wish the Labour Party had more people in it like Mick Lynch, who has made a mockery of starmer and most of the shadow cabinet as well as doing a better job of destroying the Tory lies and the media bs, than anyone from labour has done yet.

Not just about pay, it's about working conditions. Example, at the moment the line worker turns up a depot then put to work packed off into van to job. This is to be changed to home call night before and the individual turns up where the work needs to be done, no acknowledgment of travel cost or time it takes to get to work and back...

To put it in perspective my basic pay is £24,200, not all of that is pensionable , various pay deals throughout the years have been added on but not included for pension payments, the shift pay overtime ect isn't either.
That bumps my wages up to around £33.000 pre tax, take home about £2000 a mth
I have to do 2 or 3 sundays every month as contracted overtime.
so basically do an extra month of overtime each year to get that figure
Merseyrail staff are the same they are on a higher salary think its about £29 .000 with the rise, not all of that is included and they only get flat rate payments for whatever hours they do , overtime ect.
I have paid into it 31 years , split over the two sections of the rail,
I only put what I had to the basic figure it varies but is about twenty odd quid a week,
I bought property and a small bit land as my pension instead of putting more into the brass scheme, most others pay extra to get a higher pension,
but I like to do my own thing.
After all this time I would be lucky to get about £120 a week if I didn't take any lump sum of about twenty odd thousand , if I did take that, I would be getting around £80 a week thats after not taking it at the age it was available.

Nothing wrong with that.
You work hard, make your pension contributions, and are then rewarded by being somewhat comfortable in later life. Pretty much how it should be. These companies that pay in 3% are the ones taking the preverbial.
Always puzzled me the attack on pay these jobs are open for all to apply of course regarded as working class.... I'm sure being an academic does not exclude anyone working on Railways or other and being RMT member and enjoying this wage and pension. Politics of jealousy is the politics of the Tory.
