Racism in football

Horrid stuff.

But I said at the time, the FA rolling over and accepting a pathetic punishment from UEFA to the Montenegro FA was disgusting. I'm glad the FA have come out strongly again but they should not have accepted that fine back in the summer. It was ridiculous.

UEFA are a disgrace. They're a horrid, corrupt organisation. But they will only learn when big teams start taking a stand.

The FA threaten to stop playing games in these countries. Threaten to stop participating.

UEFA take a cut of ticket sales etc from their qualifiers and tournament games. Pretty sure they'd start thinking twice about these punishments when they're losing 80,000 capacity Wembley revenue and there are games being cancelled.

I'm glad the players handled it the way they did tonight, but I still can't see much changing, unfortunately.

I used to live a 2 minute walk from vasil levski stadium. I went to the CSKA v levski derby and it was madness. The pageantry in the tribunes was great, the football was terrible but the rioting after the game was like nothing I've ever seen. Both sets of fans ended up on the running track separated (to some extent)by the riot police and dogs. The section I was in ended up getting locked in after the game for about an hour. This was only about 3 years ago. The fan culture in Bulgaria is extremely macho and on a different planet from the premier league. That day, CSKA had a black winger playing for them and he didn't receive any racist abuse.

It will certainly be interesting to see the UEFA protocols used when bigger, more influential nations are involved. The Germans and the French both have a significant right wing presence at international matches. The Italians similarly. Fortunately it was just Bulgaria who have no standing in world football or global politics to make an example of. England, like the other influential, policy making nations can afford the "It weren't me Guv, it was them others" defence and cling precariously to the moral high ground.
This whole incident, foul and unacceptable as it was, has been signalled as coming for weeks. The media were all over it before it happened, the tabloids and the broadsheets as well as Sky full of faux horror. Finally some choreographed crowd scenes; sinister black hoodies, who left, apparently on cue.
English football must wake up to racism and should have done so many years ago. A cynic would say that now it is heavily reliant on foreign investment it cannot leave it any longer. Fortunately, last night was an opportunity to be seen to do something at last.

Genuine question, do you also consider john Barnes an ignorant tool?
Considering he's also black and had to deal with horrendous racism during his playing days and to a lesser degree afterwards
He comes across quite intelligent, he doesn't make brash statements like that Lord whatever from kick it out.

He seems to be the go to voice when racism in football raises it's ugly head, I quite like hearing what he says.

Inappropriate Language
Funny innit, if them gimps seen mings in the street, no weapons and on there own they wouldnt say a word because mings would just web them

Propa phaggot behaviour

to be honest, england fans turn up in city take over the town, sing no surrender, English bombers, bellowout the national anthem, smash bottles. it’s a standard affair for a large minority of fans. Is this not racism / xenophobic behaviour.

Apparently the people that started the monkey chants (as well as the previously posted here guys doing the nazi salutes) are part of Levski's ultras fanbase and seeked to provoke to turn attention to the corrupt FA and get Borislav Mihaylov fired.

Edit: basically a "Please ban us" plea, as even our own have had enough of this. No win in a year ffs.

Many black players play for both clubs and receive racist abuse rarely if ever. It's mostly down to a Blue vs Red/Police vs Army thing.

Right, as is singing to us that we're immigrants last night.
I'd just say it's reflective of their lack of intellect,
If a Bulgarian national lives in the UK or anywhere else then they are an immigrant, and vice versa,
I personally don't understand why people use it to try and offend people ...
Afterall there's nothing wrong with being an immigrant, how many British people are exactly that when the retire to Portugal, Spain etc?

Calling all Bulgarians racist is like calling all Brits racist, it's just not true.......
Unfortunately there are a minority of idiots in all countries and examples like this are just an opportunistic chance for them to appear vocal and representative

Not a minority here sadly (imo) - I can't bend my soul to say otherrwise.

What was done last night was done on purpose for the most part though, to prove and instigate.
