I find it weird tbh. Every asylum seeker and refugee I've ever met has gone through the kind of hell we can barely even imagine in order to get here. They're among the most determined and resilient people you could ever hope to meet. Imagine a footballer moving heaven and earth to join us. They want that because they want to prove their stuff at Everton, not to put all that effort in and as soon as they're here sit with their feet up. These are people utterly determined to make their new lives work. All we have to do is help them. Yes, they've almost certainly got the legacy of a great deal of trauma to deal with, but you're unlikely to meet more inspirational people, if you're willing to take the time to talk to them.
