The issue worldwide is that the human population is growing too quickly. Not so much an issue in western societies where the birth rate is starting to decrease in comparison to generations gone by. However in parts of Asia, Middle East & Africa they continue to breed like rabbits. Throw in conflict in those regions & you get a lot more migration into the West.

What are you on about? The birth rate in Asia is 2, which last time I looked is below the "replacement rate". Population is set to decline globally, and if it wasn't for migration would already be doing so in Europe. Japan's population is predicted to fall by around 16% by 2050.

I'm not sure people outside of the sector understand how critical international students are to the current university model. Int UG students, for example, can be paying over double what domicile students pay and the combined benefit to the economy is over £40 billion, or at least it was. Take them out of the equation and it would be the working class who would find themselves priced out of the University experience.

Weird to think it was only 2006/07 the Higher Education Act come in/allowing 3k tuition fees.

It's what I've said before...there's a large chunk of people massively confused between legal migrants, asylum seekers, and working migrants.

Strip it all back and the bottom line is skin colour and religion. No matter how you came into the country or even if you were born here. If you're not white you're questionable.

And if they say anything different they're lying.

I find it weird tbh. Every asylum seeker and refugee I've ever met has gone through the kind of hell we can barely even imagine in order to get here. They're among the most determined and resilient people you could ever hope to meet. Imagine a footballer moving heaven and earth to join us. They want that because they want to prove their stuff at Everton, not to put all that effort in and as soon as they're here sit with their feet up. These are people utterly determined to make their new lives work. All we have to do is help them. Yes, they've almost certainly got the legacy of a great deal of trauma to deal with, but you're unlikely to meet more inspirational people, if you're willing to take the time to talk to them.

I get what you are saying, Bruce, but as we have seen it only takes one incident of poor behaviour from those classed as illegals and the conversation turns to all. When the scrutiny shows the boats to be mainly young men you can see when aligned with incidents of criminality how paranoia and fear kicks in, especially when such things are stoked. It is a big mess and the establishment should have taken note after the Brexit disaster - that said there is a good chance that they did.

Trouble is I'm seeing more and more people agreeing with the sentiment who would never see themselves partake in such damaging activities. At some point Government whatever whoever that is, really going to have to reach out to this demographic.

I wonder if it's in part because it become too easy to call people right wing/racist nowadays.

Things like vote Brexit = racist gammon.

Express concern over uncontrolled immigration = racist.

People lash out if they don't feel listened to don't they?

And agitators will exploit that. And scum/opportunist arseholes will jump on.
