But the people and thugs causing all this trouble on the streets were probably too young to have seen or even have heard of those shows. I think the elderly that did see those shows don’t give a damn about colour or race and just get on with life. Those you are seeing on TV or up in court tend to be aged between mid 20’s to early 50’s…I may be wrong of course…..

Not everyone pete. I tried to just make sense of a certain age. And also that the majority moved on. But it doesnt take that many to make the headlines
The fella put in prison in liverpool was in his 60s. The fella who embarrassed himself with the police shield was in his 50s if a day. Im 52 and i remember them.
Some of the others and younger ones i would say would have come out to riot no matter what. As the person correctly posted who i replied to. We've got just as many stupid people.

I don’t want to be a pedant but it’s worth knowing because it’s funny . Pink shirt man was 45 ! Hate ages you mate

So what age groups were on the streets causing trouble then ?…..

I'm mid 40s. I remember those shows. They were on repeat in the 80s and earl 90s. My old man used to pointnout what a daft, miserable racist git Alf Garnett was. Through that lens we laughed at him a lot.

TBF this dissatisfaction was sort of predicted some time ago - it is around that age that much of the previous generation (certainly the most visible part of it) had paid off the house, had disposable income etc etc and became solid Tory supporters.

These types are the first people to get to the point where that doesnt happen (for a variety of reasons) even though they've spent a lifetime paying for it to happen and believing the people who told them it would happen. For these types immigration - as a reason why it hasnt happened - is always going to be a very easy sell, especially when the network (GB News etc) was set up years in advance to sell that narrative to them.

I think the only deradicalization that will work on the majority of them is to be honest with them why this has happened (the political class wasted their time and money) and say that it won't happen to their kids - and then actually bring about policies that ensures it doesn't.

That's not true of all TV shows of the era.

In Love Thy Neighbour, Eddie Booth was portrayed as a backward bigot, while the Jamaican couple next door were more sophisticated. In Till Death Do Us Part, Alf Garnett was the intolerant Pakistani hating ranter who always came unstuck. Interestingly, Eddie & Alf stood poles apart politically - Eddie was a socialist & Alf a tory. I've often heard it said that these shows are too politically incorrect for today, but it seems to me that the intent is missed. The writers were mocking the ignorance & stupidity of Eddie & Alf not presenting the inferiority of immigrants.

That's my take anyway.

Exact same with Rising Damp, with Philip and Rigsby.

For the grifters like Tate, Fox, and the bots et al isn't more disinformation?

Think the media using misinformation is actually a way for it to exonerate Farage and the previous government of any guilt.

They ain't misguided more deliberately spreading false truths. To manipulate and deceive angry, ostracised, and down on their luck individuals. Sprinkle upbringing and austerity into the mix, It has lead to a breeding ground of hatred.
So why hasn't everybody who has that background marched on Poland? Some are gullible some are intelligent enough to read between the lines.
Next level up is to read between the lines of MSM. And keep going upwards, to Chomsky levels.

A large percentage of those convicted have a criminal record.

Which iirc was the point of the character?
I'm old enough to remember the Black n White Minstrels, and even at the age of 6-7 asking why the black faces and my parents not being able to say why.
Again, I was lucky enough to be in early teens when punk broke and getting to meet other cultures and 'non conformists', rock against racism, anti nazi league etc, this against 'popular culture' of Love thy neighbour type programmes.
It's hard for younger people to understand how grounbreaking it was having Trevor MacDonald reading the news and the fuss it caused, or Desmond's on C4.
I thought we'd come a long way since then, but, apparently not..
