Q/A thread: on why you're an Evertonian

Dad (red) took to me to Charlton at home in 87 just before we won the league, I was 4. Took me to anfield aswell but goodison was something else back then. Older cousin was a blue and he told me all there is to know, took me on a few away trips when I was a kid and that helped to seal the deal.

It forms a great deal of who I am, integrity, class and all other decent things a human might be. Unlike them who would sell their nan for a title challenge. I've been going to goodison and more often then not the lower gladdy for 27 years and it still gives me goosebumps when I walk up those stairs and see the pitch in front of me, surrounded by people that love the same thing I'm there for. That's what it is for me a sense of belonging to a very large family, but not in a cultish way or anything like that.

Q/A thread.

1. Why are you an Evertonian / Toffee / Bluenose / Blue etc?

2. What does Everton mean to you?

In your own words. No judgements from anyone else. Just be honest about yourself and EFC.

1. Family.

2. Everton is part of my family. My family has followed the club in direct lineage from father to son pretty much since its inception as my family origins on my dad's side are in Anfield. I hope I can also pass on to my son a lifetime of crushing disappointment. At least I saw the triumphs of the '80's.

1. I have supported Everton since I saw Andy King on Match of the Day scoring the winner against Liverpool 1978. I had the telly volume turned up loud and the atmosphere was amazing, it must have been brilliant being there. I bought my first Everton jersey back in the early eighties.

2. Nothing could replace not being a fan of the club it means so much to me. I live in South Wales and through being a fan of Everton I have met so many great fans of the club who live in the same area as me and we talk about Everton on a daily basis. I take a keen interest in reading about the history of the club and really enjoy watching videos of the old games.

1) My older brother took me to a game against West Brom in 1985. My brother (now a tit) is a lot older than me and the story is, is that i told him if Everton win the game, i would become an Evertonian. 2 - 0 winners and thats how it started.

2) Can't really put into words, as a feeling. Results affect my mood for the day and sometimes my entire weekend. Off the top of my head of things more recent: Our FA Cup loss to Wigan caused me to cancel a family dinner on very short notice. I was married at the time and my U.S wife would of never understood, so i lied and had to fake being ill. (Jill ? if somehow you're reading this, i actually did you a favour, as that starter you made, was frankly an utter embarrassment).

I moved to the U.S in 2008 and in the November of that year, as part of my immigration into the U.S, i was scheduled for a biometrix fingerprinting and interview. Well i missed this as we lost to Wigan (again). Such was my mood for the defeat, i knew i couldn't show up for something so important in my then current state.

Had to buy a new ceiling fan for the kitchen after yanking on the cords too hard, ripping it off, such was my disgust at the 6-1 defeat to Arsenal on the opening day a few years ago.

  1. No idea. Been to England once before on a school trip and it wasn't to Liverpool. Hated Scottish football (watching it is like being mugged by someone you were supposed to trust). Started watching the PL and fell in love with Everton the first game I watched. Just a perfect fit, ye know? Never met another Scottish Toffee offline, it's either Liverpool or Chelsea/Arsenal or the Manc Dobbers.
  2. Can't explain it. That feeling I got when Jelavic scored the 2nd over Man City in the 12/13 season has been impossible to recreate. It was my first moment of sheer joy watching Everton (only Oviedo's goal at Old Trafford has came close since). Every day is now spent waiting for the next match. I used to mock people who looked up to celebrities until, during my first home match, I realised these players were my celebrities. A lot of you on here have memories of your dad taking you to matches when you were young, and Everton is a family tradition. One day I'm going to take my weans to Goodison and start my own family tradition.

1. No idea, one day I just was. Like waking up in the morning and you're all "well how about that!"
2. Everton is an extension of me, and I am an extension of Everton.

1) Never that into football when I was younger, more wrestling/TMNT/Power Rangers etc. Dad used to take me to the odd RS game but I saw the plight Everton were in in 94, felt bad and started supporting the Blues and haven't looked back since (20 years a blue now). Arl fella wasn't happy at first but has accepted it

2) Its like no other club, they put us through the ringer every weekend and yet we come back for more. Its allowed me to connect with fellow blues all over the world through places like these, even though its unlikely we will ever meet in person. Being an Evertonian is boss simply put

I never liked football as a kid. Liked the girls more but watched the lineker v rush fa cup final round a mates and we around 9 years old and we both said we'd support the winner. The reds won but the blues were so cool I went with them. Pure glory hunting. Kind of. I remember being pleasantly surprised when the news mentioned we'd win the league.

1)
Live in Denmark but is lucky enough to have an English and blue dad who protected me from becoming yet another Man Utd or Liverpool fan. Never really had a chance, but easily the best gift i have ever received.
2)
Too much. I probably used most of my time in school (gymnasium, whatever it's equal to in your school system) refreshing the OS and Grandoldteam for news about Everton.
It's funny every time we win I get surprised how unbelievably happy it makes me, and the other way around when we lose, completely ruins my mood!
Also the last time i cried was when my dad and I went to Goodison last year to watch the home game against Palace and it was called off! Can't remember being so disappointed in a very long time, it must have been when I was a kid and realized Santa wasn’t real. It was that awfull!

Same for me but add into that My grandad, uncle and family for most part grew up in the shadow of GP. WE were all born in Walton.

I am a one team man, have no interest in any other team or support a second team. Impossible to describe what supporting Everton means, it is in the whole fabric of my body.
Well said. My dad's dad was not that bothered but my dad was one of 7 lads all mad Blues and always spoke about one of his uncles who was at the 1906 final! They were all from Bootle although bombed out to Old Roan then Maghull.

1. Why are you an Evertonian / Toffee / Bluenose / Blue etc?

I had no other choice really, it was either Everton or no one.

2. What does Everton mean to you?

Everything

1. My Dad is a blue, his Dad was a blue.

2. More important than most things, left my ex wife for the second and final time (we were giving it a go for the sake of the kids) she said if I went to the pub to watch the game (we were away at Middlesboro I think) she said that was it. No woman should make you choose between her and Everton because Everton will always win.

Dad was from Dublin and when he was 5 he was told either Arsenal or Everton, he chose the toffees and has passed it down to me just like ill hopefully pass it down to my son & being a blue in London at my age (20) is rare so when we beat Arsenal/Chelsea/United I have to give stick to my mates
