Q/A thread: on why you're an Evertonian

One of my grandfathers started watching in 1908. My dad used to boat over in the 20's from Ireland to watch them and I started in 1962. It was just the natural order of things, really.

Everton, in my mind, is always about 1966 or 67 and a 60,000 crowd on a sunlit September afternoon with Bally and Young making monkeys of, well, everyone. That picture together with all the disappointments and elation are as much part of my make up as anything else in my character.

1) not sure, father a united fan. wasn't big into football when young. then when i started watching and enjoying only one team stood out to me. became obsessed after the 3-0 AJ Cahill derby.
2) allegory for everything that happens in life. reference point and distraction and obsession.

1. I was chosen
2. Means too much in all honesty. You think you might grow out of the infatuation the older you get but you don't. Weekends are football and more importantly Everton. For 90mins every sat/sun that's all that matters. That 90mins brings out every emotion possible that's why it's so addictive.

Then there's hope, the 'this will be our year to win something' feeling, a feeling gone too long and one which our younger lids have never felt. Everton is a part of my fabric and has been most of my life.

1) For me it's all about heritage. My dad is an Evertonian, and my grandad was an Evertonian, and as far as I am aware his dad was also an Evertonian. So all of our family are Blues, except for those who have married into the family over the years! So even if I had no interest in football, I would see it as my duty to carry on the line of tradition. I'm really looking forward to the day that I have kids of my own, so that I can introduce them to Everton, and pass on my passion. As well as that, I live locally, and it's nice to be able support your local team if you can.

2) Everton means a lot to me, more than I can explain really, but I have a cunning way of shutting Everton out of my mind for a few hours after a bad result! I know it sounds cheesy to say being an Evertonian is like following a religion, but I don't think there is a better way to describe it really. It still gives me chills when I go to the match to know that my dad was doing the exact same thing when he was my age, and that my grandad would have been doing the same thing watching Dixie Dean when he was a young man. The thing that I love about supporting Everton is that it is always there, no matter what is going on in your life, you've always got Everton at the back of your mind and in your thoughts.

1) Fell in love with football, didn't want to glory hunt. United supporting uncle suggested looking into Everton as they hate Liverpool as much as he did. Didn't take long to realise I was made to be a Blue from there.

2) It's hard to articulate, and hard to rationalise considering I'm on the other side of the world. But Everton is constantly at the forefront of my mind, and my favourite time of the week is just after midnight on a Saturday night when everyone else is asleep, and it's just me, Everton on the tele and Blues around the world on the web.

It's sad, lonely and woolish, but I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
where are you Kev ?

1. Honestly got no idea why I started supporting Everton

2. The club is an obsession, even from the other side of the world. When we lose i'm annoyed all week, when we win i'm in a better mood.
