Q/A thread: on why you're an Evertonian

1. My best friend and his dad taught me about soccer. I'm from the south of the US so soccer is an oddity. His dad is from Wolverhampton so I root for them on the side but I knew I needed to root for a premier league team. I watched the first game of the season against Man United in 2012 and knew Everton was for me.

2. Other than Clemson football, Everton matches dictate my mood on the weekends or during the week. I love Everton and I always will.

1. Born in Walton, sadly moved away when I was 3 years old, Every time I went home and stayed with my extended Blue family was happiest time of life.

2. Every time I go the match feels like the first time and nothing ever comes close to that feeling of knowing I'll always be part of something others will never get!

1) Tbh, it has a big deal do to with FIFA 10. As an American, I really had no idea who to choose when I got the game. I played soccer my whole life, but it was on the back burner behind more "American" sports for me. I looked at other teams that my friends recommended, and tried them out, like citeh, but wasn't feeling them. I decided to make an Everton career mode, because Tim Howard was on the team, and I had watched him in the World Cup, and I stumbled upon my favorite pplayer at the time, Landy Cakes, on the squad. I played some games with the likes of Cahill and Saha, and decided I wanted to watch them live. Back then, it was hard to watch PL in the states, but I saw a couple games on my computer with Baines scoring and Beckford missing, and sometimes woke up at 7 am to watch the espn games. Everton, the "underdog" team, took hold of me, and didn't let go. On the final day of that season when Beckford scored to beat my brother's Chelsea, I went bonkers.
2) I mean just read above. I really was chosen, and it even helped me become a better player myself. Once Everton has touched you...

1: Had really started getting into football (about 6) and new the time had come to choose my team. Had no reason to choose efc as not local, dad didn't support anyone, and all at school were either utd or L'pool. Watched the 86 cup final and decided through that game Everton were for me.

My brother did the same, but lasted only a couple of years before switching to arsenal. (Love pulling out pics now of him in Everton gear to show his kids he is a glory hunter!)

2: The fact I stuck with efc as a kid through the nineties, not being local and with all others trying to force me to be utd shows "once Everton has touched you" .....

My son has been told he's Everton. He's 9 now and going thru the rough time of school trying to change him. Hanging in there currently (just). The fact were turning pretty boss these days with players like Barkley Lukaku and signing players like Eto'o is certainly helping! :)

1 Come from a non-soccer family in a garrison town in Ireland
Was fascinated that I could find most teams on a map of England but I hadnt a clue where Everton was (I knew Chels etc were London)
And then I saw the holy trinity in the beautiful blue and I was in love
2 My heart reaces throughout every single match, league, cup , friendly. Im sure its not meant to
When we win I am in nirvana when we dont Im like a sulky child and cant sleep

Sometimes I when I wake up after a particularly satisfying result I wake up and bask all over again before dropping off again

Its in my DNA, Watson & Crick woudl have found Everton DNA was a triple helix!

Neville Southall is my cousin and was at his best when I was in primary school. Grew up in Llandudno - everyone was a red or a blue.

Both my kids are blue 'til the death.

1) When I was ten and at primary school, and coming from north London, most kids supported Spurs or Arsenal. I leant towards Spurs but wanted to be different. So when my mum bought a packet of Typhoo Tea, with a picture of the 1962-63 1st Division Champions on the side, I decided I'd become an Everton fan. I guess I was a glory hunter, like most kids that age, but I was besotted with the team and idolised Alex Young (I cried when he left the club). Despite the dark days I have never, ever, thought of supporting any other team.

2) They say men think about sex every 12 seconds or something, if that's the case then I must think about Everton every 5 seconds. Despite the distance, meaning I get to Goodison very rarely, Everton is in my heart and soul. If I was as faithful to my previous wives as I am to The Mighty Blues then I would not be on my third marriage. I know most fans say that they that their club is special but with Everton it's true, but extra special. The thought that my mum might not have bought that particular packet of tea is scary, but I really do think I was chosen so it was always going to happen. For me, although they sometimes break my heart, Everton can do no wrong; Everton for Prime Minister; Everton for world domination; Everton, Everton, Everton, Everton, Everton, Everton (etc)

1. I genuinely struggle to remember. Grew up down south and my family (Dad, uncles, cousins) are mainly Saints fans, brother's a Gooner. I got into football in 1986 during the WC (I was 6). Lineker was my 1st idol and he played for Everton (I obvs didn't realise he'd been sold by then already!), liked the blue kit with the white bib. Just had a feeling for Everton straight away. I was chosen. Also makes sense as I came up 100% scouse in the Liverpool Echo scouse test so it all kind of fits.

2. Everything. Love Everton me, the history, the ground (always feel at home there on the rare occasions I go), Z-Cars, hating the RS and all they stand for. Struggle to understand why anyone would support any club other than Everton.

...lovely hearing so many stories, particularly from folk who are not Scousers and have had the 'calling'.

1)I'm was born and raised in Everton and came from a line of Blues. My folks were stalwarts of the Supporters Club in City Rd during the 60s.

2) Everton aren't my life, but I love being an Evertonian and wouldn't have it any other way. Brian Labone was right when he said one of us is worth 20 reds. I love seeing the dynasty continue, son and daughter are huge Blues. Feel the hairs on the back of my neck when Little Eggs jumps up and applauds at the first note of Jonny Todd.

Born and raised in Manchester and never ever felt anything towards either City or United at a time when Charlton, Law (who I thought was great) and Best (who was incredible) were in their heyday... but then again, the Mighty Blues who called me to hitchhike down the East Lancs had the Golden Vision and then the Holy Trinity... enough said !!!

Everton means an awful lot to me not quite everything, but after my family watching the Blues and a good days fishing are defo 2nd and 3rd.

I liked football as a kid, but never really got majorly into the Premier league barring saying I was a Man U fan (just neg me to oblivion for my sins) till the age of 10 because all the kids at school were and I'm susceptible to peer pressure. Old man is a Blue, so I also liked Everton without ever really following them. Went to Uni where the group of lads who I hung out with went to the pub every weekend to watch games - a mixture of mancs, kopites, a gooner and a saints fan - and started getting back into it. I started paying more attention to Everton - this was around the 11/12 season - and chatting about if I supported a team, it would be them until I was actually just supporting the blue boys. Ever since then, I like to thin my blue gene just took a little longer than it needed too to kick in.

So obviously a lot of things around family - old man, a few cousins from home support Everton as well - but mainly the reason my girlfriend get's angry with me at the weekends if I can't get to the match and why I got naff all done at work when I was too busy reading match previews and forums. Unemployment has only meant that job applications are taking much longer than used to, because I just can't quit the meltseason.
