Q/A thread: on why you're an Evertonian

1. Why are you an Evertonian / Toffee / Bluenose / Blue etc?
Grew it in the 70's. Mum and dad both came from large families who were all match-going blues. The entire family would congregate at my Grandma's house every home game before going the match. Grandma would do a huge spread of food every time. As a very young child I would love those gatherings - the blue attire, the laughter, the excitement just left me in awe. Then one day their was a spare ticket going (1977 night match) and I was asked that question 'Do you want to go the match sunshine?'. I was never the same again.

2. What does Everton mean to you?
From as early as I can remember Everton was the only team. They are ingrained into my life. Nothing more to say.

All of my Dad's side are Everton. Cousins, Uncles, Aunties, Grandparents. Everyone.

As is all of my Mum's side (aside from one errant cousin), going back to my Great Grandparents.

I've been going to the match since before I could walk.

Family.

Had a season ticket for as long as I can remember, my Dad brainwashed me from a very young age and at first bribed me with bags of sweets to sit in the match (to be fair this was the 90's). Started getting really fanatical by 02/03 season so I was around 9. I remember being devastated when David Beckham moved the ball and scored the freekick at Goodison last game of the season so we never got Europe and finished 7th.

2. What does Everton mean to you? In your own words. No judgements from anyone else. Just be honest about yourself and EFC.

Everything. No matter what is going on in your life nothing else matters when you're in Goodison and is there a better high when you're in that moment of celebrating a goal?

1 My family where and are all reds I couldn't make my mind up so they gave me a ultimatum of "what colour I liked best?" I chose blue.
2 A lot more than most things

1. Always been a massive Everton fan since Chelsea didn't look like winning the title. Supported Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal for bits but never had the same affinity for them since I became a born and bred Blue 3 years ago.

2. It's a long a difficult thing but the club is my everything, will be a sad day if I end up having to support someone else in order to celebrate winning the EPL/Champions League

1. I supported Liverpool until I was 24, lucky enough to see the great teams in the 80's.Then I lost a bet in 1995 with one of my then girlfriends who was a Toffee that if they won the FA cup I'd have to support the Everton. Needless to say I am an Evertonian. We are born not manufactured.

2. The sex was great in the mid 90's. Had a great time. My blue nose is a testament to that. COYB'S! Lukaku will do Chelsea today!

1. Me dad was an enthusiastic Evertonian and loved to share his passion with me, going the game was the highlight of bonding with my dad.

2. Going to watch Everton is a massive deal for me, i've never been in a position to follow them like my dad did but manage 10-15 games a season home and away. I feel massive pride in supporting such a historically great club and feel such a connection or affinity with the club that effects my day to day emotions, i'm an Everton addict for sure.

1. I grew up in south cheshire and there was no way I was gonna follow a manc team. The other option was the [Poor language removed] so I swerved that and been a blue ever since.

2. Normally, crushing disappointment.

1). My old man is Villa. I hated my old man at the time! Was no way I was going to support his team, despite them being local. Checked out a league table in 1982 and just saw the name. "Everton". It was small compared to most. No United/City or whatever. And it just had a ring to it. That was the day I was chosen, and nothing could ever change that.

2). I love my family, and Everton. I spend way more time thinking about Everton than I do my family. I refer to them as my "second family". They understand.

1. Started following Everton around 7-8 years ago since Howard joined and he was an American. Casually followed Everton for a few years, but really got sucked in when I started reading GOT. Everton also seemed to have a lot in common with the Boston Red Sox, pre-John Henry, incredible history, but not much recent success.

2. Our matches are what I look forward to most during the week. Amazing how gutted you feel after a loss, or ecstatic after a huge win.

My nan and grandad were born in Wallasey and grew up as Evertonians. Grandad was in the navy so they were moving all over the place and ended up down here in Brighton. Now all my Nan's side supports Everton. Mum, cousins, uncle, auntie nan and grandad. We're literally the only ones in town supporting them so when we win it's great, when we lose, well...

Everything? If we lose it ruins my weekend. If we win it makes it.

1.Everton was the first team i remember watching on the the telly, it was against notts forest and i think we won 1-0. i was instantly hooked on the blues and the next day i asked my mum if she could buy me an everton scarf, i was 6 years old!.

2. Everton is a way of life for me, live breath eat sleep everton . if i am having a crap day and we win on a saturday my mood instantly changes. if we play poor and lose the first thing i think of when i wake is everton and have a crap mood on for the day. everton usually dictates the way i feel its like a drug that hooks on you .when Everton win and play great football and we beat a united or liverpool etc there really is no better feeling in the world.

1: My Dad is a Blue as are many members of the family. He and others would take me to matches when I was a wee one and after that there was no choice. If I had chosen to support someone else he'd have been fine with it (some of his brothers are reds) but if you're watching someone regularly then you start to support them.

2: Strange one this. I love Everton, I'm a season ticket holder; regularly go to away games; I love the atmosphere of match day and my missus is happy for me to indulge in. However, first and foremost my family come first and I find it perplexing how many people become engulfed in football. Choosing Everton over your wife; thinking about the club all day; part of your decision making - once I'm home that's it, apart from the odd check of SSN and a few web posts, until the next match day. I certainly wouldn't let it become a detriment to my every day life and how my attitude is at home.

I have followed Everton since the early 80's, influenced by my older brother. Moving schools in the 80's and seeing the amount of sheep who followed that shower across the park reaffirmed my dedication to Everton.

Everton for me is more than just the football. An extended family of people who share the same hopes and fears. I wish that it didn't affect me as much as it does, but I am terrible when we have lost, and high as a kite when we win. Last weekend was my relatives 21st party. Sadly it was spoilt by Chelsea winning. I tried to enjoy it but I was totally gutted about the result. In some ways I love Everton, yet hate football, due to the money orientated game, especially pricing out alot of fans, and then there's the biased kopite loving media who brush all their misdemeanours under the carpet. I just hope one day to see us back at the very top where this great institution belongs.
