Q/A thread: on why you're an Evertonian

1. Middle name is Everton. Old man is a fan and made sure I couldn't support anyone else.

2. Always followed results and games when I could in the past. Since I have moved to the UK it's become somewhat of an addiction so I would have to say an awful lot.

1 - not a clue. Supported United in the 85 final to give my grandad grief. But when the next season started I was a blue.
2 - addicted.

1: My Dad supports the blues and so I decided to follow him rather than be a Sky 4 fan.

2: Everton either means a good week or a bad week, and so much more.

1. After the 2010 FIFA World Cup getting me really interested in soccer, and then the 2014 FIFA World Cup pushing that interest more, I decided to look for an EPL team to support from across the pond in the U.S. Howard being the keeper peaked my interest in Everton. Then when I began to read about the team and observe the community on reddit, I just felt at home. So, I decided to join the toffee camp!

2. Everton is my connection to the greater world of soccer. In addition, it is the venue through which I am becoming more and more of a fan of the sport. Plus, I do feel the class that comes with the club, and really appreciate that I can be apart of the community!

1. My dad took me to Goodison for my first game in 1957 and that was it, very lucky as he was taking me to Analfield the week before but something went wrong and we could'nt go.

2. Its the second most important thing in my life still all these years later, just love the blues from that first game.

1. Why are you an Evertonian / Toffee / Bluenose / Blue etc?

Child of the 80's. In primary school first kit was bought was an everton strip. At 6 or 7 you don't think about these things. Its something that just grows on you. The father used to take me to watch all the local clubs later on going into the 90s. Tranmere. Chester City. Everton. The latter was something else. Bear in mind my first game was a 3-0 defeat! Used to watch all the local clubs (except Liverpool!!! Father said I'd have to go on my own there. Didn't want to go anyway. They were generally bells). But Everton was always there. They were something else entirely.

Later in life had a terrible time for a few years. Coincided with 2004/2005 when we simply showed everyone. Everton was there for me even when was miles from home surrounded by *******s. See the depression thread.

EFC gave me a lot of pride and strength at a time I needed it.

Now supporting the blues is my favourite thing. Popcorning (I'm an acquired taste) and educating on matters relating to FFP and making prophetic predictions on the demise of our competitor clubs (that come true!) are my other favourite pastimes.

I don't watch as much local footy these days mainly as I'm watching Everton at Goodison.

2. What does Everton mean to you?

When you've been down low and in despair

When Everton's been there like a light house and a rock that you've clung to when they've been winning + defying the odds for you and putting pride into you during a real tough period.

That's what Everton means. Despite a storm around you. Its always there.

Its why I broadcast I'm an Evertonian frequently.

1) I watched the 3-4 loss to Liverpool back in the nineties. I didn't have a club and I fell in love.

2) The embodiment of war and heroes

My dad,
Everton is who I am... from ireland and very much in the minority here , makes it even more special, first I became aware of everton was those annual relegation battles in the nineties,, made me love them even more fir some perverse reason... I felt like being an evertonian really matteredd to me... where as all my rs and manc glory hunting mates would never understand what it us to be a true fan... I still feel that way....I think about everton all week,, they make or break my wknd

1. When I were a lad (early 70s) - growing up near Preston - not many kids had football shirts like they do now. But if they did it'd be a Man Utd shirt with the sleeves stretched long in the wash. If you ever saw a Liverpool shirt it had usually gone pink round the collar. What idiot would wear that? Anyway, my favorite colour was blue.
Everyone wanted to be George Best or Denis Law. I remember the Chelsea v Leeds cup final and my brother becoming a Leeds fan - but I needed more, I was serious about which club I was going to support. My uncle smoked a pipe had huge sideburns and had a penchant for that other lot - he even took me to witness the Highway, Toshack, Keegan era team, but I couldn't stand them. They were ugly. How any kid could support a team with Alec Lindsay at left back was beyond my young comprehension.
Then it happened - the magic moment. MOTD sometime in the early seventies. Everyone was raving about how good this new Liverpool team was and I knew they were playing Everton at Goodison that day. It was a 0-0 draw, they always were in those days. Goodison looked packed on tele - the street end looked incredible in the sun, packed with blues. The cut outs behind the goal were [Poor language removed] ace - and it happened.
Lindsay ran down the wing cut in and blasted a shot 30 yards over the bar and the crowd roars - the MOTD camera pans over to the street end where a banner says "Lindsay is a Turkey" - I knew it from that moment - I had found the right team to support.

3. It means more to me now than it ever did.

Grew up in Shropshire surrounded mostly by reds, my dad wanted me to follow his beloved Wolves but in around 84 packed in taking me saying I was a curse, looking at their home record then you can understand it. I picked Everton not because of the cup win, but because they beat you know who in the charity shield. I probably was more interested in playing football then, got serious about the blues as we declined if I'm honest!

2. What does Everton mean to you?
Sets my mood for the rest of the week, I had a season ticket for a while but living in London now seldom get to games. Would love to go more often, especiy as the style of football is how I believe it should be played.
