This is what I mean about little sound bites being taken out of context. You both think Moyes was saying we had no chance, but he wasn’t. He was asked about city and basically said they’re really good, the best in the league. It’s a bit like taking a knife to a gunfight in that we’ll have to do everything perfectly to beat them. Silva said Fulham are really good, we’ll have to be 100% to beat them, but without the little analogy it’s just a standard line. Moyes has basically been castigated for years for making a throwaway comment.

Anyway, it was only an observation when I read the comments. I’m not knocking silva because as I keep saying, he’s right.
My interpretation of what Moyes said was that even at 100% his squad wasn't good enough. He was defending a negative style of play. A bad gun will beat a good knife any day. Silva was saying his squad can win if they are at their best and their best is going out and being positive.
I can't recall any Premier League manager ever saying "if we play poorly we can stil win"

But that’s what I’m talking about with context. If you look at what Moyes said in full, it’s very clear that he’s saying I’m not going to go there all guns blazing, I need to devise a plan to win and we will need to execute it perfectly. It was true. The quotes have been taken out of context so now lots of people think he was saying what you thought - that we just couldn’t win full stop.

Your analogy is somewhat misplaced, if he was bringing a knife to a gun fight he really couldn’t go in with all guns blazing.
I think it may be time to give up control of the shovel

Actually the analogy is perfect, he’s not going to a gunfight all guns blazing, because he’s going with a knife. You’ve just stood on the shovel and been hit in the face with the other end.

That is your best shot. You feel that the analogy of “not going with all guns blazing” is a prefect defence of his analogy of “bringing a knife to a gunfight” because he doesn’t have any guns. Surely it would be implicit n his analogy and not need your analogy to explain it.
By the way, did you see what I did there? Best shot, gunfight; this stuff doesn’t write itself.

What we see today with most managers are benign and carefully scripted responses to journalist's questions designed to cause the least offence. You can't blame them because the detailed fan analysis and tearing apart of every spoken word, sometimes fuelled by their own individual agenda/emotion can potentially via social media strip a team of its confidence or get you the sack! We only really see the most successful managers opening up a bit more because they are afforded the respect. It's only when things are either going great or extremely bad that they tend to vere from the script. I wish it wasn't like this but social media has changed the world.

People just love to twist his words, as he is sometimes too honest. He was crucified at Man Utd for saying they should aspire to be like Man City, which he clearly meant in terms of how they controlled games at the time. He got it for saying Sunderland were in a relegation battle too. OK he lacks tact, but he was right on all occasions.

Ho ho - Bill Shankley and Clough would really get it!

..I presume there is one of these today. I hope a journalist has the foresight to ask;

‘what specifically is wrong with Yerry Mina given the previous explanation of a ‘minor foot injury’. We are now in October and he’s yet to make an appearance?’

‘when will he be available?’

‘What specifically is the extent of Gomes’ hamstring injury. We are now in October, when will he be available for selection?’.

Instead of "what's the injury news this weekend?" which seems to always be the question. Tbf I think Silva is tired of having to answer the same Injury questions, but there we go.

Just been on SSN that Gomes is in full training with the squad and Mina is training on his own on grass but not yet included in full training. Both are expected to be available for selection after the International break.

Well we heard that before the last International break too, so let's hope that this time it happens.

Lol is Mina training on his own in case Bernard decides to stamp on him again. Don't know about anyone else but I expect them both on the bench after the international break.
