Somewhere between the above post and this for me. We played some great stuff last season no doubt, but I think we've matched that in patches already this season.
I'm not convinced. Not yet anyway. We have yet to disect a team like we did last season. The goals this season have been sort of in front of teams, if you get me. We should improve given a little more familiarity to the style and the new players. I'm just happy to mop up points whilst not playing blistering football just yet.

Think a lot of people are overlooking just how good we were at times last Season, it was a joy to watch at times, thats not to say this Season there hasnt been moments and I can only see things improving once the players adapt fully to the system.

I just said that. Before you.

8 league games in last season we had conceded 9 goals

This season we have let in 10

Hardly a cause for concern

This illusion that Moyes had a rock solid defence is a joke, We went 18 games without keeping a clean sheet between Sep and Jan last season

this this this

We're not boring to watch but I tend to get a bit frustrated with this "Disc-ount Barca" stuff now and then

I'd rather us be more direct to be honest. Not hoofing it left right and centre, but still more direct than we are

Just a personal preference

why are we having pointless polls?

Its like someone said the other day on the last one...might as well have a 'was big nev a good keeper' poll

LOL think it was me who mentioned the big nev thing, then someone went and put that up as a actual poll, made me laugh until it got locked ;p

True, we're relying on Mirallas or Coleman to run through everyone in order to break through, or long shots from Barkley and Mirallas to score mostly. Having said that, there have been some lovely moves between our front lines at times already that have been as good as any I have seen for a while.

Last year saw a lot of superb play, and I really don't buy into the negative hoofball picture of Moyes tenure here that some are trying to force feed us. But for me we have seen some glimpses of what can be under Martinez and that's enough for me to say its been as good... Football wise, no, it hasn't been, but I am enjoying it more because I am loving seeing the team change their way of playing before our eyes. Yes its still frequently slow and dangerous at the back, but the quality of that half against Newcastle had some genuinely ace moments in it.

Give me five whole games from each manager and I would prefer to watch Moyes team from earlier last season every time, but pick the best bits out of both games and there would be plenty of Martinez bits in there, which is why I would say its been more enjoyable, because you can actually see the development going onand you never quite know what's going to change week to week.

Poor argument I know, but its what's making me most happy about the new guy. We're getting results and we are are still low on the learning curve as a team, so much potential rather than getting the same results whilst being at the top of our potential.

Still get bored after ten minutes of having it in our own half though :)

Attacking football?

Attack...until defeat...then negative football was ushered in again.

When Moyes let them off the leash they played some very good stuff. But he's a cowardly manager who circles the wagons when asked a few searching questions. Never had the courage to stick with a probing game...always more comfortable reacting to events.

I completely get the logic of the system Martinez is trying to instill. It means having less of an obvious focal point and the ability to create chances from any angle, which can't be said of Moyes teams. You knew where the threat was coming from, its just we were very good at it. the best way to sum it up would be to say that Moyes system is an average one we played very well, whereas Martinez's system is a good one we are yet to master. The potential to play better than last year is there and the system possibly makes it easier to play it regularly, rather than last year where we were exceptional in parts and infuriating in others. Does that make sense or have i wildly rambled there?
