Anti-football you lad. Didn't you say you'd rather see us playing like Stoke than Barcelona, as you hate 'all that possession crap'? Baffling.

What I meant, i'd rather see us play like Stoke and win rather than play like Barca and draw/lose. I just don't like possession football, I like the way Arsenal played a while back and hate to say it now but liverpools style as its fast.

I prefer madrid to barca simply because counter attack. Weird isn't it.

You didn't watch the Newcastle game then.

I saw us score the most direct goal from a long punt you will ever see and then try our best to throw a three goal lead away!

Serioulsy though, I just think its a bit vogue for pundits to say yeah we are playing this all singing and attacking game under Martinez, where as we played some blinding stuff last season and never got the credit and I honestly think with Lukaku in the team we would have been awesome last year.

But fair dues to Martinez, he ( and Mirallas) talked Lukaku into coming here, Moyes may not have had that sway so I guess my own argument is pointless!

Yes.
Although that vote is made far simpler because of the results so far.

but realistically, yes all day. Martinez insists that we play football now; its his way or the highway. We have not had a genuinely poor performance all season in the PL, and have controlled most of the games. People who say that pretty football doesn't win you anything need to remember than poor football doesn't win you anything either.

8 league games in last season we had conceded 9 goals

This season we have let in 10

Hardly a cause for concern

This illusion that Moyes had a rock solid defence is a joke, We went 18 games without keeping a clean sheet between Sep and Jan last season

+1

focussing on being solid defensively more often than not just backfires as it introduces more anxiety into the way we play, individual mistakes creep in and you undermine what you are trying to achieve by taking such a negative attitude.

Saying we're better because of the results doesn't make sense as we are on the same points as this time last season.

We are certainly better to watch now, maybe due to the players brought in and/or Martinez. I do think we are much much more positive these days and more attack minded, when we gain possession we're trying to get forward and spread the ball around instead of hoofing it out and waiting for the opposition to just come back at us. The days of defending a 1-0 with 11 back for 60 minutes look to thankfully, have gone!

Its a no from me, we played some superb football in the first 6 months of last Season.

It almost doesnt feel as free flowing this Season.

Might improve now that Pienaar is back and we dont have Osman on the wing.

Superb football? Baines and pienaer played some superb football, but as a team we never.
It was basically long punts to felli who brought it down, passed on to baines who linked up with pienaer and they would do the damage, occasionally mirralles would do something on his own

Yes and No, we absolutely battered teams last season, looking good in the process (Mirallas goal vs west ham an example) and were quite unlucky not to win a lot of games we should of done. This season we haven't been worse aesthetically but at times TRY to look good i.e overplaying by passing round the back, this is done to the extent that I always fear we can make one mistake that could cost us a goal (Distin at the weekend to Howard)... Not a great feeling to have whilst watching the game.
However, we are picking up results which is all i care about. The style of football is just a nice little by-product.

I just wish we were a counter attacking team like real madrid. I'd love that, seeing deulofeu sprinting along with lukaku and Mirallas next to him.
Just like ronaldo, di maria and benzema

Some of the interplay between Mirrallas, Pienaar, Fellaini, Gibson, Osman occasionally, Baines and Coleman last season was brilliant. We have played some nice stuff so far, but its yet to hit the heights of last season. Im yet to see us truly pass a way through a team like we have done previously.

Still dont think we should make a full opinion for a few months, see what hes does in january and let the currnt players keep getting use to the style. You could hear roberto shouting 'faster faster' at times at the weekend so he obviously wants us to up the tempo a few bars

That's not what actually happened though is it?

Somewhere between the above post and this for me. We played some great stuff last season no doubt, but I think we've matched that in patches already this season.
