Just found this.

Apparently we had deal in principal to sign Andy Cole from United if they had signed Shearer back in 1996

Would have been a great signing at the time

There's some brilliant stuff in that article.

Here's some highlights:

Last night, Keegan was celebrating his capture of the Geordie whose goalscoring talent could win Newcastle the priceless prize of the championship trophy they have craved since the sepia days of Hughie Gallacher in 1927.
LOL

Kluivert is available at the right price, which in an English auction may reach over pounds 7m,
£7m for Ajax Kluivert! SAKE

"We're not the biggest, most successful team, but we're the biggest thinking club
oh Kevin.

Peter Shilton. Would have made a massive difference to our team in the late seventies.
Yep,Pejic signed on the premise that Shilton would follow,we got Georgie Wood, decent but as you say what a difference he would have made at that time,Trevor Francis up front with Latch and we could well have swept all before us,who knows?:)

Moyes was more interested in bring Naughton to us, but he had also been tracking Walker as well.
He wasn't mate.

The story was we wanted naughton and Spurs cake in for him so forest sold walker as part of the deal to Spurs to get more money out of them of the deal as walker was not fancied as much as naughton was.

Which worked out great as we then signed Coleman instead

We'd already signed Coleman. He had never played but was signed January 2009 we were looking at Naughton Summer 2009.

I remember us coming close to signing World Cup winner Muller.

Was only 15 and couldn't believe that we were going to sign a Brazilian... I had heard so much about them and how great every single Brazilian it at football... it was in the papers, he was on merseyside I was so excited... then we realised that muller wanted the agreed salary... AFTER TAX lol. The rest is history...

I'm now 34 ... can anyone tell me... was muller actualy any good?

Dean Ashton at crewe for a million instead of James Beattie fro 8 million - it bemused me as we had just struggled to beat Crewe home and away in the cup and Goodlass was saying the two forwards ripped us apart Ashton was one of them the youngest he went to Norwich for 1 million then became hot property called up for England and got crocked!
Alan Stubbs after playing against Dean Ashton told Moyes he was a very good player and should have a go at signing him,
but Davie in his usual dithering way lost out on Ashton, I believe he wouldn't pay what Crewe wanted so he went to Norwich City.

Another player they should have signed, but I'm going back a bit here, was Albert Stubbins in the forties, they offered the
same money as Liverpool £14,000 but he signed for them instead, and finished up on the cover of The Beatles LP
Seargent peppers lonely heart club, he was a great player as well.

Brazilian Naismith mate.

At the same time if we got Shilton and with how long he stuck around maybe we would never have got Southall.

...I was chatting with an ex-Everton scout a month or so ago who said he was at a meeting with Moyes who asked who was the most talented youngster in the country at that moment who we could sign. The response was that a young unknown called Gareth Bale had everything but would cost £1m. Moyes perhaps understandably baulked at the price for an unknown talent. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
