Players salaries

Just been raised in today's briefing.

The club's need to take immediate action on this now to avoid utter embarrassment.
I think this extends to the PL, sky and BT. They need to be looking at deals they can make between them to cancel everything til further notice instead of talking about suing each other.

On the players side, I actually think this is an opportunity to sort out the crazy money in the game. When it all comes back, people won't be able to afford to go to the game, nor will they be able to afford sky subscriptions. This means the wages they have now won't be sustainable long term anyway.

I'd call their bluff on this voiding contract thing and just do it. Some will have morals and sign a contract for a reduction while this is happening. Some will agitate for moves, and most clubs don't want any that behave that way anyway.

Football needed to change, and it will now whether the players, clubs and authorities want it to or not. They need to all manage it

I read Gordon Taylor was basically being difficult and arguing that club's have a commitment to pay players in full. Arguably he would be better served figuring out how those at lower level clubs can be protected and maybe those with the fat contracts and resources can help.

I think it is utterly crazy that some of the highest paid people in society have better (or any) union (or union style) representation than those who genuinely need it these days. I'm still in a job and glad of it. The sector I work in is heavily unionized and let's just say, in my opinion, the pick some odd battles when relatively well treated. If my sector makes me say "I can think of workforces in different sectors who really need battles fighting way more than you lot", can you imagine my contempt for the PFA and many of it's elite level membership?

I'm on Virgin Media and cancelled my Sky and BT subscriptions a couple of weeks ago, Be prepared for a long wait on the phone and some terrible hold muzak.

Don’t know about Virgin Media, but “pausing” via Sky is really easy - takes less than two minutes onine!

That Union reminds me of the BMA. Absolutely screw the NHS (and the public purse) out of hundreds of thousands but at the same time you'd really like them fighting on your behalf.

I just cant be the only person who thinks this.

But if had millions in the bank, and I was doing jack, I would have no problem letting not 20%, or a week of my money supporting others, I would say just dont pay me for a month.

edit. Imagine, the whole PL lobbing their wages, for ONE month, at lower league clubs, other staff, food banks, whatever.

Add to that, (and this was Simon Jordans idea, not mine), adding in the parachute payments that the PL will almost certainly not pay out this season.

I hate the fact that players like Sigurdsson and Shneiderlin are being paid £120,000 a week to do nothing...

oh wait they've been doing that for years
I hate the fact that any player is being paid for doing nothing for three weeks now - that's a quarter of a million quid for your average PL player.
Strange how not one of them is willing to donate any of their overblown salary to the NHS or charity. None of them will even pay a penny towards keeping fellow-employees in jobs.
This has almost finished football for me. Even if they come out tomorrow with some sort of wage cut, it will only be because they have been backed into a corner by public opinion and, as of about an hour ago, the government. It shouldn't need to happen this way.

A lot of players already give parts of there wages to charities, a lot is not publicised. I would imagine a fair few more are doing it recently too but it’s not heard about due to it being unofficial.

A lot of footballers are so sheltered and have everything done for them these days, so may have to be advised how to actually go about these things, they can’t just rock up and throw a load of money in a charity tin.

"This has almost finished football for me".

I reached that point a couple of years ago and have not knowingly put a single penny into football.
I got shut of sky completely, and no long go to games. I don't miss it one little bit.
I prefer to give my hard earned money to my sons and my Grandchildren.

I will always be a blue, but I refuse to contribute to the what I classify as "obscene" salaries paid to kids.

Gordon Taylor is one hideous toad

The govt are going to put their foot down as these utter $h1tstains we support week in week out clearly refuse to do anything until themselves.

I can honestly see them going to war on them with punitive measures being forced through, eg cap max salary to £1m/year (excluding charitable contributions).

Football and its relationship with the general public will absolutely not be the same after this.

I agree, however I would add there are people in this country in charge of multimillion pound companies, who earn mega salaries, who aren’t doing anything, and instead seeking government relief to look after their own employees.

Much better footballers than them at Barcelona, Athletico Madrid and Juventus, for example seem to be perfectly capable of taking a wage cut.
Our greedy, self-centred spoilt brats seem to be incapable of doing anything for their fellow human beings.
